Revision Grids The last gradebook highlighted issues in terms of people remembering the content covered. The C boundary on the last gradebook was 13 For everyone but in particular those who got less than 13 on the last gradebook it is important that we start developing some revision materials. The revision grids include all the content from the specification. You fill them in using your knowledge, your exercise book

Revision Grids The revision grids include all the content from the specification. You fill them in using your knowledge, your exercise book, the textbook and internet research. You can either fill in a copy by hand or you can download a copy off the blog and complete it digitally (typing, cutting and pasting, importing pictures of your work). Support sessions on Fridays will be concentrating on helping you fill in these grids in preparation for the mock in December. It is important that you work on these grids outside lessons and keep going over the material to help you remember the content.

Nazi Germany: Economy 1933-39, An Economic Miracle? When the Nazis took power in 1933 there were about 5 million Germans unemployed and the economy was in a desperate state. The Nazis claimed to carry out an economic miracle in the following years bringing about substantial improvements. In today’s lesson you are going to investigate whether this is true? Table task P81

Economy Investigation You are going to investigate whether the claim that the Nazis created an ‘economic miracle’. We will look at different areas/ evidence and you will need to complete tasks on each of: Unemployment Industrial Workers Farming Communities Big business and the middle classes

Examining the evidence: Unemployment Look at Figure 3 on P82 and the text p81-82 Explain what happened to Unemployment (give approximate numbers for at least 3 years) Give 3 bullet points explaining why the changes in Unemployment happened. Explain what happened to government spending (give approximate numbers for at least 3 years) What did the Nazis spend this money on?

Industrial Workers Complete the table bellow Grumbles Positives Judgement (miracle) Trade Unions and left wing parties banned DAF (German Labour Front) kept strict control of the workers DAF appealed to workers through propaganda looking to convince them that……… Strength through joy gave cheap theatre and cinema tickets and cheap cruises as well as the chance to buy a VW Beetle through a 5 mark a week scheme. Some workers continued to sympathise with…. Beauty of Labour movement improved conditions in factories with new facilities such as low cost canteens

Farming Communities Farmers were helped through the Reich Food Estate and Reich Entailed Farm Law, they did this as they believed in ‘Blood and Soil’. What does Source 4 tell you about the impact of Nazi policies? Complaints from farmers: More efficient farmers held back by processes of the Reich Food Estate. Banks were unwilling to lend money to farmers Only eldest children inherited Rural depopulation ran at 3% Was there an economic miracle in Farming communities?

Big Business and the middle classes Bullet point reasons why big business would and would not be happy with Nazi policies.

Overall judgement Based on what you have looked at this lesson do you think there was an ‘economic miracle’? Produce a bullet point plan to the essay question: How far had the Nazis improved the German economy by 1939? Give at least 5 bullet points on each side, use your notes from this lesson and the book to do this, include details on: Unemployment, Industrial workers, farming communities and big business/ Middle classes

Flipped learning/ String debate You will be given a role: You have to be prepared to explain the view of your person: Happy worker (formally unemployed) Unhappy conscript into the army Happy industrial worker Unhappy former Trade Unionist Happy farm worker Unhappy farm worker Happy member of middle classes Unhappy of middle classes

War: Economic Data …….. fur coats were donated to the German army in Russia by the German people In…..Albert Speer became Minister of Armaments and War Production, he did a remarkable job but much of the production was based on force labour with people working in terrible conditions in camps. In …. Lubeck a German city was virtually destroyed by British bombing. Between 1943-45 ….. People were killed… .. Wounded and ….. Made homeless by bombing. Over……… Germans fled West from the Russian army over …. Died.
