Who am I? Born in New Jersey Graduated from LaSalle University in Philadelphia Moved to Colorado in 1996 Worked at Injection Molding Magazine, Breckenridge Brewery, and Little Moon Essentials before becoming a teacher

Who am I? Growing up, my dad watched ABC’s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings but I thought it was boring! He also watched 60 Minutes which always prompted my sister and I to leave the room.

Getting my news In college, the news I was interested in had to do with music and concerts. I got my news from Rolling Stone, Spin, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Getting my news It actually wasn’t until much later that I started seeking out the news with any regularity. Besides local news, I started listening to news on the radio via NPR, National Public Radio, in my mid-twenties and reading the New York Times.

Getting my news Now I not only listen to NPR every day but I also will check out CNN, BBC, MSNBC, and Fox News on a regular basis.

Getting my news I also subscribe to The Nation, Spin, Smart Money, Yoga Journal, Smithsonian, and Backpacker magazines.

Why this class? I have always wanted to teach Current Issues. I believe that learning how to think critically about what we see and hear in various news media will enable us all to become smarter, more informed human beings, who can make better decisions that affect our lives, our communities, and our planet. Without knowing the ins and outs of current issues, it is impossible to make this world a better place.
