Conferencing – Discussing the Findings with Students Meet one-on one “Tell me a little bit about yourself as a reader.” “Let me tell you what I noticed about you as a reader.” Use common language. Resist a scripted form

I am not sure what to point out to students. How do I pick one thing? http://www.thedailycafe.com/From%20Assessment%20to%20Conferring.pdf

Set a Goal and Identify Strategies Concentrate on only one or two strategies at a time Meet one-on one You move to the student There is not a perfect choice Follow up to be sure

Document the choice – sometimes in several places

And in a few more places….

Coaching Check your Calendar Prepare for the Coaching Conference Observe Child and Listen to Reading Reinforce Teaching Practice the Strategy Plan Encourage

We are moving from…

to this.

Student Accountability Moving from what I complete to what I can show you. Use an I-can list Can the student apply what has been taught Is there evidence of practice You can’t hide in one on one situations

My thoughts… Next Steps What am I still struggling with? What do I feel confident about? What do I need to still prepare? My thoughts…

How Much Will Your Students Grow?
