WHO AND WHAT SHAPED YOU AS A LEADER? Introduction of myself

How do our words and actions have a lasting impact (both positive and negative) on our students?

Briefly explain why JP and Mazz have had a lasting impact. Tell story of “Double digits” JV basketball game Mazz Story of conflict leading to respect and friendship

PARTNER TALK Talk with a partner and share with them ONE individual that comes to mind that you feel has POSITIVELY shaped who you are as a leader, explain why

“Negative” incident at half time as a freshman FB player UH Locker Room Briefly talk about being singled out by Coach, which I still get teased about, and the private apology and how I always expose myself if I’ve made a mistake that involved someone else. If time, briefly describe what you did to CH, apologized to leadership in order to keep commitment to be transparent.

PARTNER TALK With that same partner, share an experience with ONE individual that comes to mind that you feel negatively impacted you? Why do you still remember this person? How has this interaction affected how you lead? If time, have one volunteer for one positive and one negative- 1 min each. Next slide- in the video clip think about the impact the adult has on the individual being addressed.

WHAT WILL BE YOUR OPUS? Definition of “Opus” - An important work done by a writer, painter etc., also referred to as a musical composition or set of compositions usually numbered in the order of its issue  How do you want to be remembered? Think of a former student, athlete etc. that has contacted you recently and thanked you for something you’ve done for them. “How ironic that almost 20 years later, you would be the Superintendent for the district my daughter is in. I was so excited to see a familiar name in the School. I told my daughter and Husband all about you. And how awesome you were as the Principal. You listened to us students, you gave us a voice, and urged us to go after our dreams. You helped make our Dream of the Hawk Rock Café come to life. The encouragement you showed us followed us through the years. For that, I want to THANK YOU. You were one of the reasons I went to school to become a teacher as well.” Have you recently thanked someone that has affected you positively? If not, maybe it’s time to contact that person?

HOW DO OUR OUR KIDS (YOUR ATHLETES, STUDENTS, YOUR OWN KIDS OR HOW DO OUR OUR KIDS (YOUR ATHLETES, STUDENTS, YOUR OWN KIDS OR??) SHAPE US AS A LEADER?

On the next slide I want to share with you the one person that has had the most influence on my life

Explain Jade’s impact and how it led to my Personal Vision Statement

“The time we have with our kids will be effective and efficient, not wasting one second, one minute while we have them in our hands” If I were to ask you to continue to push on one thing at your site and district, that is to talk to the most influential person, that hopefully has the authority to make specific decisions and implore them to hire teachers that can coach or can offer other extra curricular options to kids. There is a lot to be said of having your coaches on campus.

Let’s not forget “Teachers are Coaches, Coaches are Teachers,, Teachers and Coaches are EDUCATORS”
