Presentation Outline Introduction Management of Intellectual output * Information Retrieval System at NIO Implementation of OAI-PMH Compliant IR at NIO * IR Operational issues and their solutions NIO Institutional Repository Visibility Conclusion 9/18/2018

Introduction Intellectual outputs in the form of publications bring credibility to the organizations Easy access of such publications impact the community, especially the peers in specific subject Visibility and easy access from and to developing countries is still a challenge 9/18/2018

Management of Intellectual Output (Collection Description) Index Data (Collection Description) Inquiry Result 9/18/2018

Information Retrieval System at NIO Development of bibliographical applications around beginning of 1990s using CDS/ISIS software e.g. Catalogues, Database of publications by staffs of NIO, etc Internet access with ‘Reprint Request’ feature implemented to provide wider visibility to publications when ‘Open Access Initiative’ started picking up 9/18/2018

Implementation of OAI-PMH Compliant Institutional Repository at NIO Interoperability limitation of ISIS databases Availability of open source IR software platforms under GPL license with open standards and interoperability framework e.g. DC, XML, OAI-PMH, etc 9/18/2018

Implementation of OAI-PMH Compliant Institutional Repository at NIO DSpace1.3.2 was installed during February 2006. Upgraded to DSpace1.4.2 on November 2007 The URL: http://drs.nio.org 9/18/2018

IR Operational issues and their solutions Several issues associated with implementation of IR : Content policy Copyright Content organization and retrieval Administration and workflow Evaluation and analysis 9/18/2018

IR Operational issues and their solutions Content Policy Journal articles, Conference proceeding articles, Technical reports, Thesis, Dissertations, Etc Current publications/ Retrospective publications - Batch import Self-archiving by authors/mediated archiving Pre-print, Post-print to original reprints 9/18/2018
