Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop Hi everyone and welcome to Tromsø! My name is Isabell, and I am the head of communication at the Arctic Student Welfare Organisation. We are 450 people on six campuses working together to make your student life as good as possible. To do so, we offer welfare services that cover most sides of your lives, so that you can focus on being good academic students. I will take you briefly through our different welfare services, so that you will get to know us a little bit better. We are always here for you, and should you have any special requests or concerns, you can visit our service centre here on Campus, which is open Monday to Friday from 0830 to 1500. We are located one floor above the MIX kiosk, and I’m sure you will have a tour to our office during these first days.

Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop All students need a place to live, and the Arctic Student Welfare Organisation offer safe and comfortable housing at a reasonable price. Many of our apartments are set aside for international students, and as far as I understand, almost all of you are actually living in one of our student apartments during your stay in Tromsø. Many of the questions we get have to do with housing and contracts. My colleague Guri will therefore go through that more thoroughly after my brief presentation.

Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop This picture is taken in August, during the autumn DebutWEEK International. Doesn’t it look great? Happy! Being in the high north and far from home can be amazing and exciting, but sometimes it can also be a bit challenging. The student counselling centre is there for you if life gets tough and you need someone to talk to about your troubles or worries. It is free of charge for all students. Through the student counselling centre, we also arrange several activities and social events especially for international students. My good colleague Line, who you already know, is working primarely with this. She is here to take especially good care of you and make sure you have a good time here in Tromsø.

Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop All over campus, you will find a variety of cafes, cafeterias, coffee shops and even a bar. They are all run by the Arctic Student Welfare Organisation, and is the place to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most students quickly find their favorite café and become frequent guests. You may bring your own food, or you could buy it there.

Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop At the Student Sports Centre, you can get energy for your studies! Kraft is the student sports centre - it is situated right here on campus, and offers all sorts of workout for students, including climbing, yoga, group training, cardio and team sports. To do your exercise there, you need to sign up for a membership. There are also some free of charge services for international students, like a yoga and meditation class every Monday morning at 8. And next week they will start the activity campain for a healthier student life – Active Campus. Check out their full programme at out website. I would also like to mention that you can rent cross country skies at Kraft – the season starts in January. It costs 450 NOK for the whole season. In addition you need to pay a 400 NOK deposit, which you will get back when you return the equipment. Cross country skiing is the perfect way to experience the beautiful nature here, and there are skiing slopes crossing the entire island of Tromsø – in fact it also passes campus.

Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop For students with children, we offer student kindergartens. All together, we have 5 kindergartens in Tromsø with more than 300 children.

Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop Driv is the key word. Driv is the student venue and student society in Tromsø. Driv is a social arena to meet friends, it has lots of concerts, parties and activities, and it has different cultural groups that you can participate in. A nice way to get to know newpeople is to voulenteer in the student society – it is highly recommended. Driv is owned by us in the Arctic Student Welfare Organisation, but it is run by the students in Tromsø on a volunteer basis. Check it out!

Counselling | Housing | Food & drinks | Student Venues | Sports | Kindergartens | Bookshop Here at campus, you can find all the books and accessories you need for your studies on the campus book shops, Akademika. You find one here, just down the hall, and the other on the health faculty.

samskipnaden.no/en This was just a brief introduction to our welface services. You will find more info on all mentioned topics on our websites. I would now like to welcome my colleague Guri, who will tell you more about living in the student apartments. I wish you all a wonderful stay here in Tromsø! Thank you!
