Certification Professional organization assures individual is competent,promotes quality provides professional recognition (e.g.Board Certified MD, CRNP, CRNA) Certification

Registration Regulatory body- consisting of professionals. Gives an exam and maintains a list of individuals that have passed (CLT, OT's, RT's, ATC) Registration

Licensure Government regulated· individuals are licensed or permitted to work in a state; have to complete an accredited education program and a state exam. e.g. PA's, RN's, LPN's, MD's, DMD's Licensure

CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION and LICENSURE Certification- Means that a person has fulfilled requirements of education and performance. They meet the standards set by the professional association or government agency certified medical assistant dental assistant Registration- required by some health careers. A professional association or state board administers and exam. They maintain a list of registered professionals registered dietitian registered respiratory therapist registered radiological technician

Process where government agencies authorize individuals to work in a given occupation. Careers requiring licensure can vary from state to state. Need to complete CEU’s to maintain. Complete an approved educational program Pass a state bored test Must maintain standards Physicians Physical therapist Registered nurse Licensed practical nurse Licensure

Accreditation- must complete education from an approved site before registration or license will be granted. Ensures program of study meets established quality Meets established competencies Prepares you for a health career Two major accrediting programs for health care programs CAAHEP-commission on accreditation of allied health education programs ABHES-Accrediting bureau of health education schools. You should make sure you are enrolled in an accredited program!!!! Accreditation
