System Scalability The multi-board approach and comprehensive input selectablity integrated into the design of the DE-3000 permits its effective and cost-effective use on virtually any gas compressor application Standard, mid-range, and high-spec applications can be serviced by simply adding on the standard or expanded Terminal Module Assembly to the base DE-3000 package Allows for a standard hardware set to be used across a fleet of applications Minimizes training requirements for operating and engineering personnel Dramatically reduces spare parts stocking requirements Provides a commercially stable, uniform platform for expandability (communications, addl. control)

DE-3000 Configurable Safety Shutdown and Control System Standard Feature Set

Automatic Compressor Throughput Control The DE-3000 is capable of performing automatic compressor throughput (capacity) control on both screw and reciprocating compressors through regulation of engine RPM and compressor capacity Engine RPM setpoint control is accomplished by connecting one of the 4-20mA control outputs to an electronic governor or to an I/P driving a pneumatic governor 4-20mA outputs can be used to control the capacity of both screw and reciprocating compressors The CAPACITY 4-20mA output is typically connected on a reciprocating compressor to an appropriate I/P which is tubed to a pneumatically controlled external by-pass valve to adjust the load This same output can also be used to drive an internal step-less bypass, a spring-biased turn valve, or a slide valve on a screw compressor application as a means of load control DIGITAL OUT 1 (LOAD) and DIGITAL OUT 2 (UNLOAD) can be used to drive relay coils or pilot duty solenoid valves on a screw compressor

Automatic Compressor Throughput Control Three PRIMARY control strategies are available in the DE-3000 system Suction Pressure Control – Maintaining a fixed and regulated suction pressure, a large number of limited flow rate wells can be kept productive with minimal upset conditions Typical of low flow, low supply, or vapor recovery applications Discharge Pressure Control – Holding discharge pressure constant permits the flow of gas to be delivered at roughly the same rate as it is being consumed/transported upstream Engine Manifold Pressure Control – Adjusting throughput of the compressor to maintain a fixed engine manifold pressure minimizes overload risk to the prime mover (the engine) Typically seen on applications where the available gas is plentiful This approach could also be used on an electric motor driven application in conjunction with a motor current or kW sensor as feedback to the controller

Throughput Control – Operating Sequence Primary control (suction, discharge, or engine manifold) and corresponding setpoint is established Start sequence is initiated (pre-lube, purge, crank), engine/compressor is warmed up, and speed is raised to minimum load-carrying RPM Capacity control mechanism (slide valve, turn valve, bypass valve, etc.) is pulsed by digital output or actuated by a PID control loop to raise compressor capacity If insufficient to meet capacity requirements, engine speed is increased to reach setpoint

Throughput Control – Operating Sequence Other process variables can be used to influence the compressor loading/unloading process FORCE UNLOAD – A parameter (such as discharge temperature) has been exceeded and demands that the compressor be unloaded to avoid potential damage LOAD INHIBIT – A parameter (such as engine manifold pressure) has been exceeded and prohibits the application of additional load on the compressor to avoid potential damage

Auto Start Option During system configuration, the user has the option of enabling auto start Initiated by a discrete contact closure or appropriate serial string on RS-485 The Process Internal reset to clear faults Initializes pre-lube and crank delay timers Class B and C points automatically disabled until cranking begins (then pre-assigned timers activate) Pre-configured start sequence continues

The second generation DE-3000 Display brings with it significant capabilities, including: Multi-color, 128X64 pixel graphical display “Home Screen” displays engine status, speed, and suction/discharge pressures Compressor control operating screen indicates load status, level, and control parameter Class B and C timer status countdown indicated First-out and follow-on faults Setup and configuration menus

Process Information Screens

Communications/Data Logging Capability Logging/trending function records Date and time of record All home screen data (status, speed, suction, and discharge pressures) All process variables and temperature values Fault indication/Automatic Call-Out First-out fault channel and value (if available) Channel description, and record date and time

Serial Communications Full-USB connectivity is supported for configuration DE-3000 can be configured for use with ASCII or ModBus RTU protocols Ideal for use with local automation systems or remote monitoring systems

EEPROM Personality Module All system configuration is accomplished locally, through the USB port in conjunction with the Windows-compatible DE-3000 Terminal Software EEPROM stores all configuration data for easy transport to a new DE-3000 in the event of unit damage or malfunction Personality Module + Terminal Program = Full local program access and control / no factory re-programming
