Call Routing Summary Inbound call flow: Outbound call flow: User’s DID terminates at PSTN Gateway or PBX Call is routed to on-premise Lync deployment *User’s Active Directory object indicates a different deployment locator Request is proxied through on-premise Edge to Lync Online Invite is routed to end-user’s logged-in endpoints If accepted, media is routed either locally or through the company’s Edge server or firewall If rejected, media is routed to Exchange Online Unified Messaging (UM) Outbound call flow: User instantiates a PSTN call Client normalizes number and sends invite to home server Voice policy enforcement and call authorization is performed on-premise Call is routed to PSTN egress and media bypass setup to client 25

Lync Hybrid Voice Configuration Configuration management On-premise settings are managed through Lync Server Control Panel and PowerShell Cloud settings are managed through remote PowerShell cmdlets User configuration The Lync server Control Panel enables configuration relevant to hybrid voice Monitoring and troubleshooting Call Detail Record (CDR) and diagnostics from on-premises pool 26

Lync 2013 Lync Server

Lync Server Integrated on-site networking Broad interoperability 9/18/2018 Lync Server Integrated on-site networking Optimal quality over wired and wireless networks with packet marking and call admission control Resilient to networking issues and survivable across branch WAN and data center failure Broad interoperability Direct SIP connectivity supported with major IP-PBX vendors Optimized media routing and session management with inter-trunk routing Deployment flexibility Sophisticated dial plan administration with least-cost routing and number translation Powerful policies to control calling, routing, and call treatment options © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. Lync Server Signaling through Lync Server Optimized audio media flow Customer Premises Internet PSTN Lync Server On-premises External Lync User IP-PBX , Gateway or SIP Trunk Internal Lync User Signaling through Lync Server Optimized audio media flow

Lync Server 2013 Voice Enhancements Routing Delegate calls, Session Management, Flexible Trunks, Calling Number Translation Reporting Additional call details sent upstream by Mediation RGS Management New role for delegating care and feeding of Response Groups Restrictions Policies for managing where users send calls Reliability Ensuring Lync performs fast failover and failback to partner infrastructure

Delegate Call Routing Too-soon timer Delegate calls now honor user routing Delegate sets call forwarding or simultaneous ringing Calls to the boss now will ring to the delegate endpoints & follow routing Too-soon timer Ensures that a call routed to a delegate isn’t trapped in mobile voice mail. If the call gets answered too quickly (configurable at system level) call leg is dropped. Continues to support N:N boss-to-delegate relationships

Session Management Call routing from incoming trunk to outgoing trunk Set of PSTN usages associated on an incoming trunk to determine call route to an outgoing trunk. Provides better integration with additional scenarios to Lync qualified infrastructure. Completely integrated into Lync routing Existing route configuration concepts keeps configuration familiar for administrator. Media bypass in inter-trunk routing calls is supported. Includes appropriate trunk-level authorizations, CDRs, etc. Flexibly enabling routing paths including: Incoming PSTN calls to a PBX system via Lync. Outgoing PBX calls to a PSTN network via Lync. Outgoing PBX calls to another PBX system via Lync.

Session Management Between IP-PBXs Incoming call from the PBX trunk Validate incoming trunk associated PSTN usages Determine a route Apply outbound translation rules Route to outgoing PBX station Inbound Trunk PSTN Usage Route Outbound Trunk Front-End Server Trunk Trunk PBX User IP-PBX Mediation Server Media Mediation Server IP-PBX PBX User

Session Management IP-PBX to PSTN Incoming call from the PBX trunk Inbound Trunk PSTN Usage Route Outbound Trunk IP-PBX to PSTN Incoming call from the PBX trunk Validate incoming trunk associated PSTN usages Determine a route Apply outbound translation rules Route to outgoing gateway trunk Front End Server Trunk Mediation Server Gateway PSTN Trunk Media PBX User IP-PBX Mediation Server

Flexible Trunking Supporting multiple trunks between MS and a SIP Peer A SIP Peer can be associated with multiple pools or the same pool with multiple unique associations Better resiliency for both service and on-premises scenarios Better interworking with IP-PBXs for bypass Using TLS & SRTP for multiple SIP trunks to the same SIP Peer FQDN OCS 2007 - 1:1 Lync 2010 - 1:N Lync 2013 - M:N GW GW GW MS MS GW GW MS MS GW MS

Flexible Trunking Redefining the concept of a trunk A trunk is the tuple: Mediation Server FQDN & SIP Listening Port, SIP Peer FQDN & Listening Port When Outbound Routing matches a PSTN number to a route, route consists of a list of trunks Contrast this to Lync 2010, where a route consisted of a list of GWs. Significant benefits for inter-networking Resiliency – multiple egress points to the same SIP Peers formally supported Internetworking for Bypass – Bypass can happen for all calls in a branch without high overhead Multiple Sites connecting to the same Service Provider using TLS/SRTP

Flexible Trunking IP-PBX and Trunks interworking Resiliency Define multiple trunks between Mediation and the SIP Peer representing SIP termination Trunk configuration scoped globally or per trunk. Each trunk will be associated with the appropriate route for outbound calls Dial plan can be scoped per trunk. For inbound calls, per trunk policy will be applied. Representative Media IP is a per-trunk parameter. Resiliency A single MS listening port is needed for trunks to multiple GWs Resiliency does not require multiple MS listening ports, but typically needed for IP-PBX interop

Calling Number Translation Controlling presentation of PSTN numbers Translation rules now can manipulate the both format of the called and calling party number Allows for centralized translation configuration from other systems (i.e., PBX) Allows format manipulation in Lync for Interop Functions across PSTN calls from Lync and from other systems with Session Management Carriers who require specific caller ID formatting PBX, SBC and Gateway SIP Peers

Calling Number Translation Lync user call to PSTN network An administrator can associate a set of translation rules to a trunk configuration to enable calling number manipulation A trunk to route the call is determined based on the user voice policy and destination number From the trunk configuration, a translation rule is applied for the calling number Voice Policy “Redmond” PSTN Usage ”Int’l” Route Redmond-Int Outbound Trunk Redmond-GW Called # Trans. Use “011” prefix Calling # Trans. Remove “+” Route call Trunk Lync User Front End Server Mediation Server Gateway PSTN

Calling Number Translation Inter-trunk routing: PSTN to PBX user call An administrator can associate a set of translation rules to a trunk configuration to enable calling number manipulation A trunk to route the call is determined based on the user voice policy and destination number From the trunk configuration, a translation rule is applied for the calling number Inbound Trunk PSTN Usage Redmond-PBX Route Redmond-PBX Outbound Trunk Redmond-PBX Called # Trans. Calling # Trans. Route call Front End Server Trunk Mediation Server Gateway PSTN Trunk Mediation Server Media PBX User IP-PBX

Reporting: Auxiliary Calling Information Mediation sends following to SIP Peer P-Asserted-Identity (PAI) Referred-By History-Info Relevant to billing: Parameters showing who forwarded calls to PSTN for appropriate chargeback Some carriers refuse calls that don’t show clear egress from their network Configuration allows enabling & disabling forwarding

RGS Manager Role New role in Lync 2013 Administrator can delegate the management of Response Groups to a manager Allows for more scalable responsibility share of Response Groups in a corporation The scope of a response group manager is at a workflow level. Managers cannot see or modify response groups for which they don’t manage Capabilities of the manager role Manage the response group–associated queues and agent groups, add/remove agents Modify specific properties of the response group workflow Business hours, holidays, welcome message, interactive voice response (IVR) structure Delegate management rights to other managers Use RGS web configuration tools, Lync Server Control Panel & Lync Server Management Shell

Response Group Service Managed and Unmanaged Response Groups Management Managed by an administrator or a manager Managed only by an administrator Delegation By an administrator or the response group manager Delegation is not supported Sharing Cannot share the response group queues or agent groups with any other response group Can share queues and agent groups with other unmanaged response groups Visibility Visible to the response group manager Visible to the administrator Not visible by other managers Visible only to the administrator Not visible to any manager
