These co-curricular programmes, namely CCA, Student Leadership, VIA Programmes and Enrichment and Lifeskills Programme provide multiple avenues to achieve holistic student outcomes. Social-Emotional Competencies 21st Century Competencies Co-Curricular Activities support the holistic development of the student Provides multiple avenues to nurture students to prepare them for their future work and life It is through these 4 structured programmes that our school plan to identify talents and promote interest, encourage character development and instill values, promote life skills as well as teaching competencies to enable each child to handle the challenges in life later on. A holistic education also supports students to discover their strengths, interests and talents. Students tend to flourish in areas they are interested in. And studies have shown that with this, they will be able to do well in all areas in the school. Thus, as far as possible, we should allow them to pursue their areas of interest. National Schools Games (Physical Sports) Main Programmes for 2018 National Schools Games (Physical Sports) Preparing for SYF Central Judging 2019. (Visual & Performing Arts). Best Unit Competition (Uniformed Groups). National Inter-School Competition (Clubs & Societies) Speech Day (Parade & Concert). Participation in camps, VIA, public performances, school events (eg National Day) In 2018, the main school programmes in which all our students will be taking part or be involved in will be Physical Sports – Students will be taking part in the National School Games or Inter School Sports Competition. Happy to add that our Football C Div is the National School Champions for 2018. Our Floorball Boys and Girls Teams have also done well with Top 4 placing in the NSG. VPA – Our students have done well with 3 Distinctions and 5 Accomplishment Awards in the SYF 2018. Our students will be busy with performances for school events as well as preparing for the SYF 2019. Our UG cadets have done well this year. NCC – Silver, NCDCC – Silver and Red Cross – Gold Unit. Students in the Clubs will be preparing for various Inter School Competitions. And all our students will be involved in the 1st Anniversay Speech Day in March 2018.

Why CCA: CCAs provide authentic platforms for students to develop skills. CCA also foster social integration and help students develop a sense of belonging, camaraderie and loyalty. Active participation in CCA also helps students develop healthy recreational interests, which contributes to the overall well-being. Students will be well grounded in sound moral values and equipped with competencies, ready for future challenges. Why CCA It is because CCA provide a real platform either to learn a new skill or to fine-tune and develop their skills. CCA also foster integration of students from different background and develop a sense of belonging to class, CCA, school and country. Active participation in CCA will result in the student being developed in good values and ready for future challenges.

CCA Policy One Student, One CCA. Main CCA Days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. CCA Start Time: 3.10 pm , CCA End Time: 5.30 pm (latest by 6.00 pm). Students must be In CCA or school attire. Punctual and attendance is compulsory. Absences must be covered by supporting documents (eg MCs, relevant letters, excuse from CCA by teachers). Absent from CCA without reason Teachers will inform parents. Teachers will monitor attendance and send for E&E CCA Policy Student to have one CCA. Main CCA Day being on Tuesdays and Thursdays Start time will be at 3.15 pm and end by 5.30 pm. (Lunch time already factored into the school time table between 12 noon and 1 pm) Students must in school or CCA attire. Absences from CCA is considered as absent from school. Students must produce the MC.

CCA Policy Continuous involvement (4 to 5 yrs). Minimum of 75% attendance per year. Must be actively involved in CCA: Take part in competition or exhibition. Be involved in leadership position. Be involved in service (VIA). Change of CCA (at the beginning or year of year) via Change of CCA Application. CCA Policy 2: Continuous involvement in CCA is rewarded with additional points from LEAPs. Students must attend at least 75% of the attendance in a year to be considered for a minimum of good conduct grade. All students are expected to be actively participating in their own CCA.

However due to the tight timeline, students may go for CCA Experience for the 1st 3 weeks before deciding on ONE CCA. Students are also invited to attend a trial session or audition before being allocated their CCA. The school will also organised a CCA Showcase to further help students decide the CCAs that the would like to join. All students will be asked to indicate a CCA from each of the 4 category. Allocation to the CCA is by balancing student’s interest and school needs. This is as to provide an adequate experience for all students, every CCA must have a certain number of students before it can function adequately.

RECOGNITION (LEAPS 2.0) 4 domains has levels of attainment: 1 - 5 The intent of LEAPS 2.0 is to affirm students for their efforts in holistic development. Through the school’s co-curricular programmes, students development in 4 domains – Participation, Achievement, Leadership and Service – will count towards their bonus points for admissions to post-secondary institutions. For the 4 domains included in bonus points computation, students may obtain levels of attainment that runs from level 1 to level 5 (as you can see in the document that you have). Examples include representation and accomplishment at different platforms such as concerts and competitions.

A student representing the school in an event will have a level 2. However it will increase (eg to Level 3) with the increase in the number of years representing the school.

Councillor, Prefect, Sports Leader, Class Leader, CCA Leader, Rank (eg Sergeant, CPL, etc) Service Affirms students’ contributions to the community and development as responsible and active citizens Students serve the community through schools’ Values-In-Action programmes Range of hours of service (min 24 hours in 4 to 5 years) Leadership - recognises the student’s development as a leader. In Meridian, all our Sec 2 embark on the NYAA Bronze and all Sec 3 embark on NYAA Silver. Service - recognises our student’s contributions in community service. With the VIA projects planned by each class, all our students will be able to achieve the required number of hours as stipulated.

Leadership Domain in LEAPS 2.0 Level 1: Completed 2 modules on leadership Levels 2 – 3: National Youth Achievement Award: Level 2: Bronze Level 3: Silver and above Levels 2 – 5: Recognition of progressive student leadership development through leadership positions Here is the breakdown for the different levels for leadership. As an example, NYAA Bronze is Level 2 whilst NYAA Silver is a Level 3.

The level of attainment will be converted to a bonus point(s) which can be used for admission to Junior Colleges/ Polytechnics/ Institutes of Education (JC/Poly/ITE). Key Message: LEAPS 2.0 uses only broad bands of co-curricular experience and is much blunted compared to previous LEAPS – there are only 3 possibilities. Excellent (2 bonus points) attained a minimum Level 3 in all four domains with at least Level 4 in one domain. Good (1 bonus point) attained a minimum Level 1 in all four domains with any one of the following: At least Level 2 in three domains; At least Level 2 in one domain and at least Level 3 in another domain; or At least Level 4 in one domain. Fair (no bonus points)
