REGATTA 101

WHERE? Sandy Run Rowing Facility Volunteer check in The Point

Sandy Run Directions From Lake Ridge Park: Right on Smoketown Left on Old Bridge rd (~3.5 miles) Left on Gordon blvd/123 (~3.6 miles) Left on Hampton rd (~0.8 miles) Slight Left on Van Thompson (~0.8 miles) Down into the park, follow parking attendant directions.

Tips for Parents Join us at The Point! - All PWCS schools cheer from there Carpool - Parking is $20 at Sandy Run Allow plenty of time - at least an hour before your race begins It can be up to a mile hike, through the woods depending on where you park - wear decent shoes There is a $3 shuttle from the top parking lot, to the finish line. From there it is a much shorter hike. Bring CASH - they do not swipe cards most places

More Tips Bring a chair, binoculars, sunscreen, a book, it can be awhile between races. Layers! Layers! Layers! For the larger regattas a satellite parking lot at Old Bridge and 123 commuter lot may be available. TAKE ADVANTAGE!! Cost $5 + add 30 min additional time For “live” results you can follow VASRA on Twitter - @vasraresults

Tips for Rowers! LABEL EVERYTHING!! All uniforms look alike. Layers, Layers, Layers. Bring something comfortable to wear. It can be a long day. BRING WATER and SUNSCREEN Pillows, sleeping bags, blankets, homework, cards, games, snacks and extra clothes. LABEL EVERYTHING! Regatta T-shirts and concession food is available, bring spending money (cash) if you want. Talk to returning rowers or coaches if you have questions. Did I mention LABEL EVERYTHING!

Volunteer 101 ALL volunteer jobs take place at Sandy Run park YOU MUST SIGN IN AT THE VOLUNTEER TENT at the bottom of the hill in front of the boathouses. If you do not sign in, we do not get credit for filling the position even if you do the work. Plan to arrive at least 30-45mins BEFORE your volunteer job begins. To allow time to sign in and find your volunteer location If an emergency arises and you can’t do your job, the EARLIER we know the better. It’s much easier to find a replacement on Weds than on Friday night at 9:00pm. No children or siblings may accompany volunteers while they perform their duties.
