Background of the case Dick Anthony Heller was a police officer in Washington D.C. He had a handgun at home. There had been a law passed that you had to keep your gun registered and disassembled. The Constitutional Principles of the Case There is only one Constitutional Principle dealing with the case, and that is the Second Amendment. Outcome and Why The Court decided that first clause of the 2nd Amendment that refers to “militia” is an introduction clause and does not limit the clause that lets the Amendment operate.
