Love Proportionate To Forgiveness Luke 7:36-50 Two debtors and their debts: The creditor’s act of kindness: The reaction of the debtors:

Love Proportionate To Forgiveness Luke 7:36-50 God forgiving one of his sins. The creditor’s act of kindness: It is not something one deserves or merits. It is given freely by grace (Eph. 2:8-9).

Love Proportionate To Forgiveness Luke 7:36-50 Two debtors and their debts: 500 denarii represents the sinful woman. 50 denarii represents the self-righteous Pharisee. The debts represent the consciousness of sinfulness.

Love Proportionate To Forgiveness Luke 7:36-50 Two attitudes contrasted. The Pharisee was not conscious of his need for forgiveness, therefore his love for Jesus was little. The reaction of the debtors: The sinful woman was conscious of her need for forgiveness and loved Jesus great.

Love Proportionate To Forgiveness Luke 7:36-50 Application One like this neither sees nor feels any need for the Lord, and shows little or no love. When a person feels he is okay, that he really hasn’t been all that bad, he depends upon himself and in so doing shuts himself off from God. One must recognize he is sinful, separated from God, and there is nothing he can do to remove the guilt. He must see and feel his need for Jesus and the forgiveness He can provide, which will cause him to love Jesus. It has been said that the greatest sin is to be conscious of no sin.
