Recognize Statistical Questions Lesson 12.1 Recognize Statistical Questions

Vocabulary – Unit 12 data statistical question

Objectives - 12.1 Recognize Statistical Questions Content Objective: IWBAT to recognize statistical questions. Language Objective: IWBAT write and explain to my partner how to recognize statistical questions.

Essential Question How do you identify a statistical question?

Problem of the Day At a book distribution center, the workers packed 3,483 books. They put 27 books in each box. How many boxes did they use? a. 238 b. 129 c. 119 d. 102

Statistical or NOT A statistical question asks about a data set that can vary, or change. If a question asks about one piece of information at one time, it is not statistical. Practice… How many students are in my class? How many students are in each of the classes in this school? How many hours did you spend studying each day for the last two weeks? How many hours did you spend studying yesterday?

More Practice A statistical question asks about a data set that can vary, or change. If a question asks about one piece of information at one time, it is not statistical. How tall is the student sitting closest to the door in our class? What are the heights, in inches, of the students in our class? How many pets do you have? How many pets does each student in sixth grade have?
