All about ancient Maya civilization!!!! By Destiny Turner

geography!!!!!!!!<3 The Mayan civilization lived in Central America which now consist in Yucatan, Guatemala, Belize, and Southern Mexico. This whole area lies south of the tropic of Cancer, and north of the equator, and is about 900 kilometers from north to south and 550 kilometers in the east-west direction.

religion!!!!!!!!<3 The Maya worshiped gods of nature everyday. worshipping their gods was a huge part of daily life Some of their gods included the God of Rain, Lady Rainbow, the God of Maize (corn), and of course, the God of Sun.  Without the help of these important gods, there would be no crops and everyone would starve .

achievements!!!!!!!<3 They invented: Pottery Pyramids Ball courts Palaces and Temples Counting and Calendar

political system!!!!<3 One noble family controlled each city.  When the ruling noble died, his job passed to his son.  No one else got a shot at it. The noble families’ right to rule originated with the Hero Twins. Each noble family was supposedly a direct descendant of one of the Hero Twins. That gave them the justification they needed to keep their job. They were directly related to the gods

economics!!!!!!!!!<3 Mayan farmers grew corn, beans, squash, and fruit. They prized cacao trees for their seeds, from which chocolate is made. To feed the people in their city-states, farmers terraced hilly land and used irrigation to water crops. Where fewer people lived, the Maya used slash-and-burn agriculture to clear land and fertilize crops.

social structure!!!!!!!<3 It is believed that the Maya had a class society. There were slaves, peasants, craftsmen, nobility, priests, and leaders. There were also warriors. At the top were the nobles and priests. The middle class had the craftsmen, traders, and warriors. At the bottom were farmers, other workers, and slaves.

ancient Maya facts!!!!!! Did you know some of the Mayans were probably the hunters and gathers. The people traded food, pottery,& jewelry. The Mayans used things from the forest to make rope and baskets. Everyday living for most Mayans was very difficult. The Mayans kept dogs as pets and rasied turkey for food. The Mayans were at peace with the world around them.

The Mayan Civilization had its beginnings around the year B. C. 2,000 The Mayan Civilization had its beginnings around the year B.C. 2,000.   Its earliest origins point to the Yucatan Peninsula of present day Mexico.  They really began to show advancement around A.D. 250 in Southern Mexico, through all of Guatemala,  present day western Belize, and northwestern Honduras. The Mayans are noted for the first conduit drainage system on the continent and perhaps the discovery of the concept of the zero. The Mayan customs were a huge part of the Mayan culture because they were very set on their beliefs. When a member of one's family died they were buried in simple graves just under their house.
