This is Jeopardy Cell Transport To make this game… First think of five review categories and five questions for each category. Add the categories to the top of the table in slide 2. Place your questions according to the categories into the slides. For example…C1-200 is the question for Category 1 worth 200 points. C5-400 is the question for Category 5 worth 400 points. Place a final jeopardy question in the Final Jeopardy box. Test your slide show. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lorinsomerlot@mac.com or lsomerlot@new-albany.k12.oh.us
Category No. 1 Category No. 2 Category No. 3 Category No. 4 No. 5 100 200 300 400 500 To play the game. Divide you class into teams. If you have bells or some other way of emulating ringing in your answers, knock yourself out! The contestant chooses a category and a point value. Click on their choice and you will advance to the associated slide. Click on the slide to reveal the answer. Once the contestant has stated the question click on the slide again to reveal the question. Click BACK to return to the Categories Slide. The first contestant from team 1 goes first then I alternate to the next team. Final Jeopardy

C2-300-The answer is… This mode of transport is passive but requires the use of proteins. Facilitated Diffusion Back
C2-400-The answer is… When a cell is placed into a solution the water will move until the cell and the outside environment reach _________. equilibrium Back
C2-500-The answer is… Large Molecules can enter a cell most rapidly by Facilitated diffusion Back

C3-200-The answer is… If the concentration of sugar is lower outside the cell, what will happen by osmosis? Water will move into the cell Back
C3-300-The answer is… An animal cell would _________ if placed in a hypotonic environment. swell Back
C3-400-The answer is… This part of the cell membrane repels charged particles. Hydrophobic tails Back
C3-500-The answer is… Back
C4-100-The answer is… If I place a cell with 5% solute into a beaker with 10% solute the water would want to move ______________. out of the cell Back

C4-500-The answer is… If a cell is losing water to the environment it is ___________ to the environment. Hypotonic Back
C5-100-The answer is… In osmosis water moves from ______ to _________ concentration. High, low Back
C5-200-The answer is… At this point there is movement of molecules but no net movement. equilibrium Back
C5-300-The answer is… *Bonus This part of the cell membrane lets the rest of the body know that the cell belongs there. Carbohydrate markers Back
C5-400-The answer is… Which type of transport moves molecules from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration? Active Transport Back
C6-500-The answer is… Neither – the solute does not move. If a cell has an internal salt concentration of 0.8% and it was placed in a solution with a salt concentration of 20%, in which direction would the solute move? Neither – the solute does not move. Back
Final Jeopardy Imagine that we take an egg and remove its shell. What would be left is a membrane that in non-permeable to salt and sugar. Explain in terms of the cell membrane and the different types of solutions. Vinegar: Acetic acid dissolved the shell, solution was hypotonic and water moved into egg. Corn Syrup: Solution is now hypertonic and water moved out of egg to even out concentration of corn syrup. Water: Solution once again hypotonic and water moved into egg. *All movement occurs because membrane is selectively permeable and water can diffuse easily. Solutes in these solutions are too big to cross the membrane. Back End Game
