Welcome to 3rd Grade 2017-2018 St. Martin of Tours School Mrs. Alison Montemarano

Our Mission Statement St. Martin of Tours Catholic School is a safe and caring community of diverse cultures committed to living the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. We nurture each of our students to become lifelong learners in a global society. We prepare our students to apply 21st Century skills through leadership, stewardship and service.

About the Teacher BA, Holy Family University, certified in Elementary and Special Education MA in Education from LaSalle University. Previously taught 3rd grade in Bucks and Montgomery counties. I love my family, married over 30 years, proud mother of three sons. ‍I love children and am fair, fun, creative, kind and patient. I am excited to be a part of Independence Mission Schools.

Our Goals To create a school and classroom environment in which students are safe – To help students develop a love of learning and enhance self confidence and responsibility. To provide opportunities for students to: Develop strong academic skills Learn effective communication skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening. Think critically, creatively and solve problems. Collaborate with one another. Possess self-esteem and motivation. Understand how to obtain and use information. Have access to differentiated instruction based on their individual needs.

Class Schedule 7:30 – 7:45 Breakfast, no early drop off. 7:45 - 8:15 Prayers, Pledge & Homeroom Activities Math - Reading – Journey’s Reading Program Language Arts includes: Writing, Speaking & Listening, Vocabulary, Spelling, Cursive Handwriting 11:40 - 12:20 Lunch/Recess Religion Social Studies Science Specials: Art (Monday) Music & Library (Wednesday) Gym & Technology (Friday) 2:40 - 2:50 Pack-up, Prayers, Dismissal

Homework SIGN EVERY NIGHT Math – multiplication & addition First in Math – online program – log-in hw book English Language Arts Reading (60 minutes per week – Reading Log) Religion – study prayers Social Studies and Science – studying for tests No written homework will be assigned over a weekend All assignments will be posted on our class web page. http://mrsmontemarano.weebly.com

Tests Spelling – Friday Reading – Friday – skills, vocabulary & comprehension. Religion – will be announced in advance Science & Social Studies will be announced. www.quizlet.com study tool on my Web Page Book reports – different genre each month, information will be sent home.

Report Cards & Assessments Student log (calendar) is in the homework book sign & return daily. All tests and projects sent home for parent signature and returned to school. Report cards distributed 3 times a year, conferences are held in October. Academic Progress Marks are determined by tests, class work, homework, class participation, independent and group projects and a variety of assessment practices. Non-numeric for 3rd Grade on a sliding scale from Outstanding to Unsatisfactory performance.

Star of the Week Each Friday a student will be chosen as Star of the Week, everyone will get a turn. Complete the poster I give them and return to school; they should decorate with pictures and may bring in an item to share with the class. Children write “nice notes” to the presenter. Builds classroom community and kids LOVE it!

Ways to help your child succeed Sign all homework, every night and calendar. Sign and return all tests and writing projects. Review grades posted to My Student Progress Write me an absence note after an absence. Send in a healthy snack for your child; pretzels will be available to pre-order in October. Birthdays: Can send in a snack to share at snack time, no cakes please. Remember No free breakfast or lunches served until Monday, September 11th. No CARES until Monday, September 11.

Very Important Transportation: Please send me a note if your child is not going home in their usual manner. Please do not send this via e-mail during the school day. Call the office by 2:30. Please advise if there is a Custody agreement in place for your child. Please advise if your child has any food allergies.
