Welcome to Haemonetics Training for the OrthoPAT® System and Disposables

Prerequisites Before taking this lesson, the following module(s) should have been completed: Cell Salvage Introduction: Transfusion

Topics OrthoPAT® System Integrated Disposable Components Reservoir Dynamic Disk RBC Bag Waste Bag

OrthoPAT System & Integrated Disposable Objectives Be able to: Name the parts and their functions for the OrthoPAT® System Integrated Disposable

Integral Disposable Set Single-use Disposable Processing Set Sterile Fluid Pathway Lot Number Expiration Date Good until the last day of the month and year Disposable does not contain a suction tip or wound drain Do not use if found open or visibly damaged.

What do you think? Why is it important to inspect a disposable container prior to use? What should you do if something is discovered?

What do you think? Why is it important to inspect a disposable container prior to use? Contents need to have a sterile fluid pathway. If the container is damaged or the contents are missing any caps, the pathway may not be sterile Any kinks in tubing may cause problems during use What should you do if something is discovered? Report to Haemonetics

Integral Disposable Set Main Disposable Processing Set Reservoir Dynamic Disk RBC Bag Saline Line Stopcocks Waste Bag

Integral Disposable Set Main Disposable Reservoir Hydrophobic Filter (inside) Mounting Tab(s) Float Ball / Channel Reservoir Ports Intra-Op (2) Post-Op (1) Screen Filter (200 micron) Mounting Tab(s)

Integral Disposable Set Main Disposable Reservoir Filtered Chamber Unfiltered Chamber Reservoir Port Clamps (3) Sock Filter Unfiltered to Filtered strike-through at ~ 150 mL

Integral Disposable Set Main Disposable Disk and Valves Disk Header Rotating Seal Outlet Valve (stopcock) Dynamic Disk Inlet Valve (stopcock)

What do you think? Why is it important to know what the strike through volume is in a reservoir? What is a rotating seal?

What do you think? Why is it important to know what the strike through volume is in a reservoir? Operator may question why processing does not start as soon as blood enters the reservoir. What is a rotating seal? The rotating seal is in the header and allows the Dynamic Disk to rotate while maintaining a functionally closed system. i.e. no fluid leaks out and no bacterial can get in.

Integral Disposable Set Main Disposable Saline Line Saline Line Saline Spike Air Elimination Filter

Integral Disposable Set Main Disposable RBC Bag 400 mL Slide Clamp Sterile Cap 1 per disposable Replacements sold in cases of 40, individually wrapped Contains Air Do Not Pressure Reinfuse

Integral Disposable Set Main Disposable Waste Bag 3000 mL (3 Liters) Slide Clamp Cap 1 per disposable Replacements sold in cases of 40, individually wrapped

Integral Disposable Set Double Wrapped Pouches Intra-Op Post-Op To be passed into the field

What is the purpose of double wrapped disposable components? What do you think? What is the purpose of double wrapped disposable components?

What do you think? What is the purpose of double wrapped disposable components? The inner wrapped contents can be dropped onto the sterile field If the inner wrapped package is dropped the contents are still sterile and can be passed into the field

Integral Disposable Set Intra-Op Suction Set Suction Line Dual-Lumen Tubing Anticoagulant Line Suction Tip Connector Spike / Drip Chamber Yellow Capped End Roller Clamp

Integral Disposable Set Suction Tubing Post-Op Suction Set Yellow Capped End Wound Drain Connector 1/8” 3/16” 1/4”

How is the patient’s wound drain attached to the PostOp suction line? What do you think? How is the patient’s wound drain attached to the PostOp suction line?

What do you think? How is the patient’s wound drain attached to the PostOp suction line? The wound drain connector is cut at the joint with the appropriate size and the wound drain is slide into the opening.
