Levels Of Organization
Smallest Unit of Matter the ATOM Proton – positively charged particle in an atom Neutron – neutral charged particle in an atom Electron – negatively charged particle in an atom Nucleus of an atom- houses proton and neutron and is surrounded by the electron cloud made up of electrons
Level One - The Cell The basic building block of structure and function bone cells blood cells skin cells
Level Two - Tissue Cells that are similar in structure and function are usually joined together to form tissues bone tissue skin tissue muscle tissue
Level Three - Organ The Femur The Heart The Skin Tissues are further organized into organs. Organs are groups of tissues that work together. The Femur The Heart The Skin
Level Four - Organ System A group of organs working together to perform a specific function. Circulatory Nervous Skeletal
Level Five - Organism Elephant Grasshopper Blowfish All the systems work together to form an organism. An organism is an entire living thing that carries out all the basic functions of life Grasshopper Blowfish Elephant
Population A group of organisms all of the same species living in a given area Ferrets Redwoods People
Community Interactions of two or more populations interacting in a given area
Ecosystem Community interactions with the living and non-living components or biotic and abiotic components interacting in a given area
Biome An ecosystem with a primary plant, animal, climate specific to that biome
Biosphere All of the living areas on this earth from the deepest oceans to the highest level of atmosphere that can maintain life
