The Excretory System. What is Excretion? Excretion – the process of removing wastes from the body. – Can be in the form of a solid, liquid or gas. Wastes.
Organ System that forms a protective covering on the outside of the body.
INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM Includes skin and all accessory organs - hair, nails and a variety of glands (sweat and oil); single largest organ in the body FUNCTIONS:
Integumentary System Skin, Nails, Hair, Glands What organs make up the integumentary system? -skin, and accessories (nails, hair, glands) -integument.
What’s Your Function? Looking at the skin!. Why is Your Skin Important? Cover the body & prevents water loss. Protects from injury & infection. Helps.
What you will do today... -Name the largest organ of the integumentary system -List the general functions of the skin -Describe the structure of the layers.
EXCRETION. - is the process of removing metabolic wastes (metabolic means it has entered the body cells)
Integumentary System (Skin). What Can You Observe About Skin? Look at the skin on your arms and hands. What does your skin do for your body?

Integumentary and Excretory Systems By: Sofia Arce, Fangze Chen, Hailey Garrett, Cindy Lam

Standards SC.6.L.14.5 Identify and investigate the general functions of the of the human body and describe ways these systems interact with each other to maintain homeostasis.

Objectives: Students will identify and/or describe the general functions of the major systems (Integumentary and Excretory) of the human body Student will identify and/or describe how the systems of the human body interact to maintain homeostasis. Essential Question: How do the integumentary and excretory systems work together to allow the body to maintain homeostasis?

Vocabulary Integumentary system- organ system that protects the body from various kinds of damage, such as loss of water or abrasion from outside. It includes the skin and its appendages (including hair and nails). Sweat gland- a small portion of sweat released through the skin Epidermis- outer layer of cells covering an organism Dermis-the thick layer of living tissue below the epidermis that forms the true skin

Vocabulary Skin- the protective layer of the body Excretory system- organ system that gets rid of cellular waste from all parts of the body Kidneys- pair of organs that removes waste from blood Ureters- tubes that connect kidneys to bladder Bladder- saclike organ that stores urine Urethra- a tube where urine exits the bladder

integumentary The integumentary system is the protective outer layer of your body. For example, the skin, hair, and nails. Very top part of the skin is the epidermis. Second layer underneath the epidermis is the dermis. The last layer of the skin is the hypodermis. The system protects your organs from any disease in your surroundings

integumentary Dermis- contains the sweat gland, nerves, oil gland, and the hair follicles. Hypodermis- contains the arteries and veins and fatty tissue. Sweat Glands- released to cool your body off when the nervous system senses the body temperature is rising Oil Glands are an oily substance that contain lipids and fat, pimples and acne produce when too much oil is in the skin Hair also grows from the skin and protects your body, too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWPuYog0pXg

Excretory System Helps you get rid of waste and regulates the amount of fluids and salt in the body through a process called urinating You have 2 kidneys, they remove the waste from your blood After that the waste or urine travels through 2 tubes each coming from each kidney called the ureters Urine is stored in a saclike organ called the bladder Urine then exits the body through the urethra

Match each organ to it’s corresponding function. Kidneys Integumentary system Epidermis Bladder Urethra Excretory system Dermis Gets rid of waste Layer containing sweat and oil glands and hair follicles Where urine exits the body Removes waste from blood The protective layer of the body (skin, hair, nails) Outer layer of cell covering an organism Where urine is stored before exiting the body
