Designing Flipped Learning Experiences with Office Mix Instructor Name Title School/Office email Designing Flipped Learning Experiences with Office Mix I will know I am successful when… I can discuss the theory behind the flipped learning model I can explain how Office Mix supports flipped learning I can use Office Mix tools to create learner centered instructional materials

How would you describe flipped learning? How does it support a LCE?

Definition of Flipped Learning Flipped Learning is a pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter. http://flippedlearning.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/FLIP_handout_FNL_Web.pdf

Home/School Flip exploration, hands-on practice, and assessment occur with teacher facilitation at school while acquisition of information, note-taking, and self-assessment happen individually by students at home. In-School Flip student groups and stations provide two distinct learning modes with the teacher engaging some students in exploration, practice, and assessment while technology tools allow other students to acquire necessary information independently. Which model(s) could you see yourself using with your students and why would it benefit them? Targeted Flip information acquisition is provided through technology as needed to targeted students (absentees, advanced learners, interest groups, etc.) in order to minimize the disruption of classroom routines and maximize meaningful teacher interactions.

Independent Learning Videos (1-1 ½ minute per grade level) Audio Images Online texts Simulations Games Websites

Developing Quality Independent Learning Find and/or Create Content- locate content that is already available or create your own (screencasts, videos, podcasts, documents, etc.) Package and Deliver Content- put the content together in a way that makes it accessible to the students and gives it context and interactivity. (Consider management strategies)

Assessment of Independent Learning Ask questions to get information about student misconceptions, flaws in reasoning, and/or incomplete understandings. How will you assess your students’ understanding?

Analytics cont.

Teacher Facilitated Application In-class application should involve a significant amount of problem solving and other active learning activities, forcing students to retrieve, apply, and/or extend the material that they learned independently. These activities should use, but not repeat, the content covered by the flipped material. Collaborative projects Discussions Group problem solving Small group re-teaching

How could you see yourself using Office Mix for Flipped Instruction this school year?
