HCS Elementary Education Department Literacy Update HCS Elementary Education Department

The Literacy Pathway Focus The focus of the literacy pathway include the following: Deepen understanding of reading best practices among teachers and school administrators. Create program structures so that there is consistency in instruction across the district to enhance student achievement. Provide students with social and emotional learning opportunities Provide classroom teachers with the necessary resources for whole and small group instruction. (Collaborative Classroom & Reading Pathway) Develop a 3-Year implementation plan to build district capacity to sustain and support the literacy pathway focus across multiple years.

2018-2019 Implementation Plan Classroom Teachers: May 2018: All K-5 teachers- Reading Pathway Training June 11-14, 2018: Collaborative Classroom Introductory Training July 25, 2018: New Hire Training (Reading Pathway & Collaborative Classroom) July 31-August 1, 2018: Collaborative Classroom Training August 27-September 14, 2018, October 29-December 7, 2018, February 4, 2109-March 15, 2019: Collaborative Classroom Training (Lesson Studies)
