WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCE POPULATION GROWTH?
Abiotic – nonliving parts of an organism’s environment Abiotic – nonliving parts of an organism’s environment. Biotic- the living organisms that inhabit an environment.
Carrying Capacity – the number of organisms of 1 species that an environment can support.
Competition – the relationship between organisms that need the same resources.
Exponential growth –a population grows faster as it increases in size.
Limiting Factors – any factor that restricts the survival, reproduction or distribution of organisms.
Logistic growth - growth rate decreases as the population reaches carrying capacity.
Overpopulation - when a population of a species exceeds the carrying capacity of its environment.
Population – a group of organisms of the same species that interbreed and live in the same place.
Scale – levels of organization between organisms within the biosphere. Biosphere(biggest)-> Environments -> Communities -> Populations -> Species(smallest)
Organism-> Population-> Community-> Ecosystem->
Help for test: Ecosystem – all the organisms in a certain place and their physical environment Community – a group of interacting populations of different species
