The intent is to provide an overview of known potential safety hazards associated with equipment operation. Hands on training with an experienced operator on each specific model must be conducted. The trainee can not proceed onto production until they are determined ready to proceed by the supervisor of the training. Before any operation or maintenance procedure is performed with or on this equipment, it is important that personnel have a complete understanding of the location and functions of all controls and indicators, as well as, the location and use of all emergency shutdown controls and procedures. SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS Title: Fuel Buffalo SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Note: To transport fuel buffalo must have current Mantrip – Personnel Carrier Training Work Area Examination: Examine the roof and ribs for loose materials and the walkways for potential slipping/tripping hazards. Scale loose roof and ribs as necessary. Remove potential slipping/tripping hazards. Pre-ops: PA State Law - Diesel operators must have received initial 8 hours of instruction by a diesel certified instructor. And complete annual diesel retraining. Approved diesel pre-operational checklist must be completed in it’s entirety prior to being operated. Check plug in overflow reservoir to ensure it is in place. Inspect fuel hose for any damage(cracking, tears, cuts, etc.) The plug keeps any spillage or overflow of the fuel tank contained. Clean any accumulation of oil, grease, or diesel using appropriate materials.(absorb all, water, etc.) Any damage to any equipment must be reported or repaired prior to its use. Filling fuel buffalo and other diesel equipment: Inspect fueling area for any hazardous conditions and identify red zones. Operate fueling station (permanent and mobile) according to manufacturers instructions. Follow site specific plan for utilizing fuel station as instructed in diesel training. When filling is completed, store hose properly on furnished storage reel. Utilize Blue Lights to alert others of your presence. Never place yourself between the fuel buffalo and a piece of equipment being fueled. Never block or wedge fuel nozzle open while fueling. If auto stop on fuel nozzle fails to shut off at full tank, report to maintenance dept. So repairs can be made. Keep unused fueling hose stored properly to prevent damage, slipping and tripping hazards.

Once fueling is complete, the fuel buffalo must be returned to its designated parking/storage area. Always follow safe operating procedures and be aware of changing haulage conditions. Follow site specific guidelines for diesel fuel transportation. Parking fuel buffalo: Fuel buffalo must never be left unattended unless parked in the approved designated storage area. It is prohibited to leave the fuel buffalo unattended.
