ICARD 5LNC and Operational Data ICAO GIS analysis

Overview We receive new Waypoint Data from our client The new Waypoint Data is converted into a .shp format and integrated in the original data in order to construct updated map with most key layers visualized… The new ICARD5LNC ICAO database layer is compared with the Operational Data layer Comparison findings: Many discrepancies between the two data .

ICAO5LNC History? Originally States used ”The Green Book” to choose and reserve a 5LNC. The consequence: many duplicates between regions and coordinate mistakes recorded in the 5LNC data base . The calculation of the coordinate location at that time did not follow a geodesic procedure. Regularly the coordinates of a 5LNC were grid intersections on large scale map. The Degrees Minutes and Seconds were read and recorded manually using a divided compass tool… Result: 5LNC data is inaccurate with varied coordinate precision between 2 and 6 digits. Records are very different to the real world operational coordinate data. The term Coordinate Precision refers to the mathematical exactness of a coordinate and is based on the possible number of significant digits that can be stored for each coordinate.

Questions and Comments To create an effective ICARD INITIALISATION We must correct the present ICARD5LNC DATABASE following measures proposed in the “ICAO to do list” Compare complete ICARD5LNC data with respect to the existing operational data and considering coordinate precision, duplicates and other found errors. Verify ICARD5LNC waypoints that intersect operational route data Create a list of omitted waypoints along upper and lower routes with non pronounceable 5 letter radio approach to be incorporated in the ICARD5LNC ICAO using the GIS Spatial Analyst software.
