Our Solar System by Jocelyn b. The Solar System has all the planets because of the gravity. The inner planets are made of rock, and metal and they are small. Hundreds of years ago we did not know about The Solar System.

The Sun The sun is in the center of The Solar System. In 8 minutes the sun’s light can reach us. When the moon is in front of the sun it is called a Solar Eclipse.

Mercury Mercury looks a lot like the Moon. In the daytime Mercury is very hot 400 degrees to be exact. Mercury has no water on land but there might be water underground.

Venus Venus is mostly carbon dioxide. Venus is smaller than Earth. It’s gravity is like Earth’s gravity.

Earth Earth has only 21 percent oxygen. Earth is the only planet with water on the crust. Earth is the only planet with life on it.

Mars Mars [The Red Planet] is covered with rust-like dust. Mars has dust storms that are very hard to walk in through. Mars has volcanos on it’s surface.

The asteroid belt Planetoids or minor planets are also known as asteroids. Asteroids are like comets but don’t have visible comas. In 1801 the first asteroid was discovered.

JUPITER The biggest planet in our Solar System is Jupiter. Jupiter has poisonous clouds. Jupiter’s rings is made out of crystals and dust.

Saturn The second largest planet is Saturn it is also a gas planet. Saturn’s surface is rocky and covered with gas. Saturn’s ring is made out of ice crystals and specks of dust.

Uranus Because of Uranus’ early formation Uranus lays on it’s side. When somebody looked through a telescope the first planet they saw was Uranus. Uranus is made out of hydrogen and methane.

Neptune Neptune is 4 times the size of earth. The planet who suffers the worst violent weather is Neptune. Neptune has white clouds that stretch across the planet.

Pluto Pluto was so small people didn’t think it was a planet. Pluto is made out of rock and ice. Pluto is also made out of nitrogen and carbon monoxon.
