What is a genetic disorder? This is the question that your experiment answers A genetic disorder is a variety of disorders passed from parent to offspring through chromosomes.

What causes a genetic disorder? Mutations in one or both of the parents' reproductive cells, the environment.

How long does a genetic disorder last? All genetic disorders typically last your whole life span.

What are some examples of genetic disorders? (albino snake) What are some examples of genetic disorders?  While down syndrome is the most common, there are other disorders such as albinism and Phenylketonuria.

How could you treat a genetic disorder? Although some disorders are treatable, other are not. The ones that are, can be treated by alleviation of the symptoms through surgery and a variety of therapies.

What are the classes of genetic diseases? The classes are, chromosomal, single-gene Mendelian, single-gene non-Mendelian or multifactorial causes.

What might a genetic disorder lead to? Some disorders can be treated but others can lower lifespan and/or be fatal.

When does a genetic disorder show up? They can show up at any stage of the pregnancy.

They affect about one in thirty-three babies / 3%. What percent of babies born in the U.S. are affected by a genetic disorder? They affect about one in thirty-three babies / 3%.

Are genetic disorders, genetic diseases and birth defects all the same thing? Yes, genetic disorders, diseases, and birth defects are all the same thing.

What can increase the chances of a birth defect? Taking certain medications, drinking, smoking, having caffeine and sometimes being an older woman.

What are the symptoms / How can you tell if your child had a genetic disorder? You can tell when you have a birth defect when you see missing limbs or body parts,  reduced mental capacity, developmental delays, speech impediments, and metabolic disorders

How can you try to prevent birth defects? You can be healthy, don't do anything that increases the chances of birth defects and especially go talk to your doctor about what you can do.

How many babies are born every year with a genetic disease? About 120,000 babies are born every year in the U.S. with a genetic disease.

Are birth defects common? Yes, as you can see in the previous slides, the number of babies affected is large. So yes, birth defects/genetic diseases/genetic disorders are common.

Conclusion In conclusion, we predict that in the future we'll cause more genetic disorders. While they're most commonly thought of to be caused while in the womb, there can be environmental factors too. For example, with all of this pollution in the air from car exhaust and factory smoke, expecting mothers might both get her and her baby infected with disease or radiation. On the other hand, with further technology, we can hopefully prevent or even cure genetic disorders. The world we live in is evolving fast in science, technology, engineering, and medicine. This could potentially mean that we could study the chemicals that cause the disorders. It's not confirmed that this is the future of the world, but I think we have enough evidence to make a very accurate theory.
