Web Design Audience and Purpose

Lesson Objectives To understand the importance of audience and purpose when designing a web product All students will identify the audience and purpose of a website Most students will explain how a website has been designed for the audience and purpose Some students will be able to reason why some website may have more than one audience or purpose

Purpose A website is always designed with a purpose in mind. In your Unit 1 exam you will be given a client brief, and you will have to design a website which suits their purpose and their audience The purpose is WHY the website is being designed. It could be To convey a message To advertise a product To inform or educate To persuade To entertain

Target Audience Not only do you have to think about the purpose of the website, you must also think about WHO it is aimed at. This could include Children Adults People interested in a certain topic People who have shared interest

Who will use the product? What is their level of literacy/ language skills? Age Gender Interests Who will use the product? Target Audience What do they want from the product? How much they know already? What will get them to investigate further? Are they beginners? Are they experts?
