Year 11 Subject Selection – Japanese Picture??

Course Description The study of a language other than English contributes to the overall education of students, most particularly in the area of communication, but also in the area of cross-cultural understanding, interpectoral learning, cognitive development, literacy and general knowledge. It provides access to the culture of communities which use the language and promotes understanding of different attitudes and values within the wider Australian community and beyond. Students demonstrate the achievement of the outcomes based on progressive development of skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing through activities and tasks organised around the areas of study. The areas of study in Units 1 to 2 focus on the areas of study for language, which are made up of the themes and topics (i.e. My town, Seasonal event, typical Japanese and Australian diet, School life and Japan trip), text types, kinds of writing, vocabulary and grammar.

Why Study this? Work Tasks Assessment tasks Development of Vocabulary skill with flashcards, Language perfect and Quizlet on line. Kanji reading and writing skill with the kanji book VCE level grammar patterns both reading and writing skill with KOKOSEIKATSU text/work book. Speaking practice: general conversation, discussion and interview Listening practice Creating essays/ speech scripts , articles, email and letters Unit 1 and 2 Outcome 1: Express ideas through the production of original texts. Outcome 2a: Analyse and use information from spoken texts. Outcome 2b: Analyse and use information from written texts. Outcome 3: Exchange information, opinions and experiences.

Assessment of levels of achievement for these units will not be reported to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Schools may choose to report levels of achievement using grades, descriptive statements or other indicators.
