Objective Research has shown that the first year of University is critical to the long-term outcomes of a student’s university experience. Students who are engaged early in first year, and who learn how to succeed early in their university careers, are more likely to stay the course than those whose experience is not so positive.* *Succeeding@Griffith

1st Year The focus in 2008 will be on academic goals in line with career aspirations and transition to University. It is recommended that Mentors and Mentees meet at least 4 times a year at the beginning and end of each semester to discuss the mentees experiences plan and to check progress against goals set.

What is an Experiences Plan Completing the template in your handouts will give you a place to start when you have your first mentoring activity with your mentor Preparing for every mentoring activity will ensure you best utilise your time with your academic mentor Prior to each mentoring activity review your initial experiences plan, update and discuss

Progress Reports Reflecting and evaluating the mentoring experience are essential parts of learning.
