Unit 3 The Five Themes of Geography Visual Vocabulary
Geography The study of the Earth and everything in or on it.
Location Where a place is. There are two types of Location: Absolute Location and Relative Location
Absolute Location Exact place on the Earth using Latitude and Longitude (x,y) or street address.
Relative location Explains where a place is by its relation to another place by distance, direction, or a landmark.
Place Describes what it’s like there using Physical and Man Made Features
Physical Features Natural landmarks. Ex. mountains, rivers, beaches, and animal and plant life of a place.
Human Features Used to describe a place by the man made features (bridges, roads, buildings,etc)
Human-Environment Interaction How humans adapt, depend, and modify to their environment.
Movement The mobility of people and their ideas, language, goods (culture)
Region An area on the earth's surface that has common characteristics. (Religion, Sports Teams, Language)
