We make life safer Thatch Information Pack Introduction Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is pleased to provide this educational presentation on the prevention of fires in thatch properties. The session will consist of, a presentation, a DVD, You will receive a Thatch Information Pack (TIP).

We make life safer Thatch Information Pack There are various inserts contained within the Thatch Information Pack (TIP) including: Prevention, Maintenance, In the event of a fire, A floor plan template, At the scene of a fire.

We make life safer Thatch Information Pack The aim of this presentation is to ensure your house remains looking like this.

We make life safer Thatch Information Pack And not to look like this!

We make life safer The thatch fire experience We would now like to present to you a DVD on thatch fires. Any questions?

We make life safer Thatch Information Pack As you look through your Thatch Information Pack (TIP) you will find each section has a graphic symbol for ease of use. As I talk through the pack, please make sure you are on the correct page by ensuring that the correct symbol is showing.

We make life safer TIP symbols Prevention Maintenance In the event of a fire

We make life safer TIP symbols At the scene of a fire Floor Plan Refer to Thatch Property guide

We make life safer Using the information pack Homeowners action point When you see this symbol in the Thatch Information Pack (TIP) it prompts you to carry out out this activity as an action point, such as getting your chimney swept.

We make life safer Prevention This section of the pack highlights the precautionary measures that you can take around your home, including: –having smoke detectors fitted around your home to give you early warning of a fire, –ensuring all important documents are kept in a fire box to protect them, –and having a garden hose which can reach around the house for you to use to attack the fire, if you feel, it is safe to do so.

We make life safer Maintenance This section of the pack highlights the importance of putting in place regular maintenance checks, including; –checks on your chimney, ensuring it is regularly checked and cleaned, if necessary, –ensuring your spark arrestor is cleaned, if you have one, –and having your electrical wiring checked regularly and any repairs that are undertaken are done so by a qualified electrician.

We make life safer In the event of a fire This section of the pack provides you with space to write down the information you will need to give to the emergency operators if there is a fire. It also provides you with space to write down other important information such as building and contents policy numbers and contact details, as well as valuable and sentimental items for salvage considerations for the fire officers.

We make life safer Floor Plan This section of the pack provides you with an opportunity to draw a floor plan of your property, ground and first floor. By doing this you will be able to indicate the locations of valuable and sentimental items. This can then be given to the fire crews who will then use this information to formulate a salvage plan whilst undertaking firefighting operations.

We make life safer At the scene of a fire This section of the pack provides you with prompts and a space to write useful information to give to the fire crews if they attend a fire at your property and you are present. Useful information includes: –Location of intake services into your property; gas, water and electricity. –Location of access to the loft and additional hazards within the property which might be important for the firefighters to know such as oil and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) tanks.

We make life safer Thatch Safety Guide Another part of the Thatch Information Pack (TIP) is the Thatched Property Safety Guide booklet. Throughout your Thatch Information Pack (TIP) you will see this symbol highlighted, above right. Along with this symbol will be a page number, which will enable you to look at the relevant page from the Thatched Property Safety Guide booklet and obtain additional information. We would advise you to read this guide to ensure you are fully aware of its contents.

We make life safer Keeping it safe The Thatch Information Pack (TIP) is designed to be kept together in the wallet. Locate the pack at a convenient location near an exit point. This will enable you to remove it from your property if you are able to use that exit point, or you can inform Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service personnel of its location who can retrieve it for you. If you are not present we will automatically look for it in these type of locations.

We make life safer Contact details We would like you to provide us with your address details. This information will be kept in accordance with the 1998 Data Protection Act. Your details will be used for Community Safety information and messages. Any questions?
