Famous Scientists WALT: Describe the life and works of a range of scientists I could also explain some of the scientific concepts they have discovered

Imagine you were a very accomplished scientist Imagine you were a very accomplished scientist. What would you research/invent and why? Write down some ideas in pairs.

Here are some major achievements of scientists…. Saving millions of lives by discovering antibiotics Discovering the atom and what is inside it Understanding more about our solar system and planets even though we’ve never landed on any Identifying the causes of deadly diseases that can now be cured Discovering many things we can’t see like sound waves, forces, gravity Being able to fly in planes iPods, TVs, computers

Your Task – today and prep You must make an A3 poster OR a PowerPoint presentation about 2 famous scientists. Include: Name :- 1 mark Dates of Birth and Death :- 1 mark Country of Birth :- 1 mark Major Achievements :- 3 marks Importance of their work for society :- 3 marks Use the A4 “Famous British Scientists” sheets for ideas as well as the below names. Female scientists include Marie Curie, Jane Goodall, Rosalind Franklin. Also look into scientists such as Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawkin, Louis Pasteur, John Snow Use the encyclopedias and books we have in class as well as the internet. Make notes in your books and write it up later. Next lesson, you will do a presentation on your chosen scientists for others to take notes on – make it good!
