Support CMT IST Envoys PLs / APLs IST Participants Some of you may have been on an international before and so know what to expect. Every international is different though so we are going to go through what your role will be and how we will provide support. Due to the size of the contingent then we have a multi-layered support structure to ensure that even if the CMT are busy with an issue, your interests are still kept at heart. We are currently recruiting our IST Envoy’s whose role it is to pass on any minor issues that you may have. They will be meeting CMT regularly where these issues can be passed on. We will also be using this opportunity to pass on any messages so make sure you look out for the IST Envoys throughout the event. If you have a more personal issue that requires discretion then approach the CMT who will be able to work out next steps. If an issue arises during your IST job, such as you don’t feel the right level of instruction has been given for you to complete your job for the organisers, then first talk this through with the manager who met you at the start of that particular session. If this still doesn’t help then raise this with either an IST Envoy or CMT. IST Participants

Announcement Coming Soon Your IST Envoys? Announcement Coming Soon We will announce who your IST Envoys are in the next Tulip Times, to be emailed out in early March. Thank you to everyone who put themselves forward to help with our contingent support plan. As a reminder, the role of the IST Envoys is to pass on key messages from the CMT as well as make sure that any highlights or concerns you have as IST are also reaching the CMT.

Be part of something Big Sometimes its easy to forget how our actions can have an effect on others, both positive and negative. It doesn’t matter what our role may be but each contribution is a vital part of organising roverway. In 1961 a man was on a tour of a factory in the USA. He was being shown all the shiny gadgets and the latest research. On crossing a concourse he walked over to a janitor who was busy cleaning the floor. When asked what he was doing he said…

“I’m helping to put a man on the moon”. That janitor worked at NASA and the man who walked over to him was President JFK. So it important to recognise that during your time at Roverway 2018 you may have to do jobs that you wouldn’t normally volunteer to do or you feel are almost insignificant in the scheme of things. But as this anecdote neatly emphasises, it takes the contributions of many for the greater project to succeed. As CMT, CST and IST we are all here to help bring about that moon landing moment for our participants. Yes you will also have new experiences and grow throughout the event but it is your contribution that will bring about the greatest change.

FISH! *Choose your attitude *Play *Make their day *Be present To help us succeed at bringing about these moon landing moments we are going to adopt an outline that will not only bring results but also ensure we have a fun experience too. These will also be used by PLs/APLs. In the early 2000s, a manager in Seattle was tasked with reforming a department that was just getting by, producing just what they needed but hardly ever bringing about someone’s moon landing moment. That was until she went to the local fish market where although it was a labour intensive and for many a grim job, she noticed that all the customers and staff were enjoying the overall experience. Over time and work with the fish market, the FISH! philosophy was created. So first ‘Choose your attitude’. The fish guys were aware that they choose their attitude each day. One of the fish guys said “When you are doing what you are doing, who are you being? Are you being impatient and bored, or are you being world famous? You are going to act differently if you are being world famous”. Secondly Play. The fish guys have fun with their work and fun is energising. Thirdly Make their day. The fish guys include the customers in their good time. They engage their customers in ways which create energy and goodwill. Who are our customers and how can we engage them in a way that will make their day? How can we make each other’s day? Finally Be present. Deal with the situation in hand, putting the overall experience at the forefront.

What to expect *Varied programme of activities, training, work and down time *May = complete skill/job form (Deadline 1 June) *Most will go straight to main site but opportunity to support paths *International working groups – use a QR code to access daily schedule + can take on extra jobs in downtime As IST you will receive a varied programme which will consist of doing services, training, fun activities and spare time. In May you will be emailed a form to complete asking what skills you have and a role preference. This is the type of work not a specific job. Possible areas are programme, services, food, staff and marketing. ‘Dirty jobs’ such as toilets will be shared fairly. Deadline will be 1 June. In planning the IST jobs, IST preferences will be taken into account as much as possible. Jobs will be equally divided among ISTs - with no IST job taking up more than 8 hours a day. Unless your job allocation is supporting the paths, you will head to the main site following the opening ceremony in The Hague. You will be put into international working groups of 4 people. Each group will get a QR code to scan on your phones and get your daily schedule. We recommend getting used to QR codes now so that this process is easier (lots of QR reading apps available). You will also be able to take on further jobs in your downtime if you wish by visiting the Job Office.

What to expect *Opportunities to mingle *Subcamp shared with CMT – games, activities, workshops and ‘Daily Info Moment’ *Parking = none in The Hague and limited at mainsite (+likely at a charge). *Need for path leaders + activity field helpers (to be emailed out). When an IST member is not working, they can spend their time in different ways. First of activities will be organised for ISTs during the Path phase as well as during main camp. Examples of activities are a daytrip to a Dutch city, sailing on the water or evening activities at the campfire. Secondly, ISTs will get the opportunity to follow some training courses either in developing a skill or to learn from each other’s cultures. And last, but not least, there will be a IST district with their own foodhouse to make new friends and meet up with each other. Just as it is for participants, Roverway will be an incredible international experience for ISTs in making new friends, getting to know other cultures and have a great time together! The subamp will be shared with CMT and there will be games, activities, workshop and a ‘Daily Info Moment’. No organised parking in The Hague and parking will be limited at the main site, likely at a charge. We have also been told there is a need for more path leaders. Each path requires 3 main leaders to organise and run it. The main organisers are also looking for people to assist with the activity field. We will email around further information and forms to fill on these opportunities.

Lots of IST have already used this group to start to get to know others in our contingent, ask questions and even plan a social or two.
