Tanka Poetry Mistake made in notes yesterday Tanka is based on having a set number of syllables in each line of a poem with 31 syllables in total divided over 5 lines. First line= 5 syllables Life has suffering (5) Second line= 7 syllables Meditation is peaceful (7) Third line= 5 syllables Japan mixed beliefs (5) Fourth line= 7 syllables Shintoist value kami (7) Fifth line = 7 syllables Buddhist search for inner peace (7) The poems are often devoted to nature, seasons, and emotions (like love, anger, happiness, and sadness). Your assignment today is to write 5 poems. One focused on your notes and the readings from page 198-203 Two about nature, seasons, and emotions Two on a topic of your choice Add Imagery to your poems
