WHY SAFESTERIL ? Continuous thermal sterilization is the main alternative to irradiation (UV, ionization, micro-waves) and chemical treatments. Safesteril® is an innovative and patented Turn Key Continuous Steam Pasteurization Process developed by ETIA for spices, herbs, tea, or any other ingredient, dried vegetables, dried fruits, cereal or any other ingredients. To guaranty the best treatment, Safesteril®, process includes: Perfect control and regulation of dwell time and temperature profile of the product during the pasteurization process Good mixing of the product in order to have the most efficient and homogeneous treatment Total control of product’s humidity by a unique dry steam process No condensation flash cooling section for a quick and safe final product for a better packing operation.

THE PROCESS Feeding & Dosing Steam Sterilization Flash Cooling Control Traceability Inspection & Cleaning Safesteril® has been design to answer most demanding HACCP and Quality Management Protocol. All equipments and devices of the process are design to give complete and total possibility of inspection and cleaning.

THE PROCESS STEAM STERILIZATION Product is conveyed and quickly heat to the setting temperature by a worm electrical screw conveyor. Control of temperature of the product is given by regulation on the electrical power supply deliver to the screw by a PID system. Dwell time is also perfectly adjust by monitoring the frequency drive of the screw gear motor. Steam is injected uniformly into the chamber in order to improve pasteurization and control product moisture content. Small quantity of steam (3 to 10% of nominal product capacity) is needed since bigger part of energy is given by the screw. Due to the combination of electrical heating screw conveyor and steam injection, no condensation of steam on product occurs and no drying section is then needed. FLASH COOLING The FRIGOMIX® cooling (ETIA patent) is based on the circulation of chilled water into the screw, and the percolation of a conditioned air (temperature and humidity) through the product. The result is a flash cooling of the product without any condensation for the preservation of microbiological and organoleptic qualities.
