Ongoing - Public Awareness Campaign - Remind participants they can keep abreast of the entire process via CA’s website - https://calgaryacademy.com/stratplan. Community Engagement Meetings – Review meeting dates and topics Internal Review – Following our Nov. 10 meeting, the Executive Leadership Team met to review operational efficiencies that are required. Students, staff and parents can expect to be called on to attend additional review meetings will be held once we begin to develop strategies for our plan. E C

Planning Principles Partner with the entire school community – both internal & external stakeholders Ensure all stakeholders understand the purpose, “to create a shared vision of success” Provide & honour the voice of all participants Pledge to seek stakeholder’s advice & innovation in formulating solutions & to incorporate their feedback into the plan to the maximum extent possible Review planning principles – our commitment across the process

Rules of Engagement Together, we will be inclusive of all voices. Together, we will have mutual respect for all participants. Together, we are committed to hearing & understanding the views of all participants. Review rules of engagement – model the school’s REACH philosophy

Current Success As we begin to put our plan on paper, it’s important to note that CA has a lot to celebrate! The Government of Alberta’s APORI – developed in 1995 to track the performance of K-12 institutions – reveals CA: Maintains high satisfaction levels across the board Strong provincial achievement test and diploma results A high percentage of our students achieve Rutherford Scholarships A Zero drop out rate and one of the highest high school completion rates in Alberta – 17 percent higher than the provincial level

What We Heard Students at the Centre Open, Honest, Transparent Culture Build From the Inside, Out Don’t Judge a Book By its Cover 10 minutes 15 Themes emerged from our November 10 Community Engagement meeting, in which we outlined where we want CA to be by 2021. While I’m going to ask that everyone spend 10 minutes reviewing the What We Heard 1.0 document in front of them, I wanted to note my own observations: Participants believe it critical that students remain at the centre of our decisions and operations. Together, we must look ahead, rather than behind, to build an open, honest, transparent culture. Across the entire school, CA has a lot of work to do internally to ensure we attain our vision for the future. Overwhelming call for upgrades to our facilities, but I challenge you that parents don’t judge us by our facility, rather what we do for their children.

Session One Cross Constituent Grouping 1 Question 1 - What caught your attention as you read the report, “What We Heard”? Question 2 - What excites you most about the trends that have emerged? What concerns you? Question 3 – From the list of trends, identify the top two priorities that CA’s Strategic Plan needs to address?   Session One 9:30 - 10:15 – Cross Constituent Group Three Questions – Table Facilitators will capture the discussion Health Break 10:15 – Remember to charge your laptop When we regroup, we will be in our Cohort groups – group will be outlined your nametag.

Session Two Cohort Grouping 1 Question 1 - What caught your attention as you read the report, “What We Heard”? Question 2 - What excites you most about the trends that have emerged? Session 2 - 10:30 - 11:15 – Cohort Grouping At 11:15, I hope at least five of our table facilitators will share their group’s responses from both session one and two. Lunch 11:30 to 12:15 – It is served in auxiliary gym. When we return from lunch you will be with a new cross constituent group for the afternoon – group outlined on your nametag

Large Group What where your table’s priorities? Session One Session Two

Goals & Outcomes Goals are broad statements that look towards the long term and steer organizations in the direction of realizing their vision. ”What does the school wish to achieve?” ABed Goal: Success for Every Student Outcomes are measurable statements of what an organization seeks to achieve. “What would CA look like when it gets to where it wants to be?” ABed Outcome: Students are literate and numerate. Describe Alberta Education’s Goals and Outcomes

Current Goals Maximize every student’s academic performance. Teach independent work habits and transferable skills. Improve pro-social and self-advocacy skills. Raise confidence and self-esteem. Currently CA has four learning goals.

Session Three & Four Cross Constituent Grouping 2 Goal Development – Confirm/Modify/Add Do the current goals outline what CA wishes to achieve? Do they need to be revised, deleted, added to? If so how? Are there any gaps? Are additional goals required? If so what? Outcome Development For each goal, describe what it would look like if CA where to get where it wants to be. Session Three & Four – 12:15 to 2:30 Cross-Constituent Group

Sample Goal & Outcome Alberta Education 2012 Goal: Success for Every Student Corresponding Outcome: Students are literate and numerate.

Large Group Discussion What where your table’s goals and priorities? Can I call on four or five tables to share their work this afternoon?
