Welcome to Psychology Elle Lumsden

Todays lesson aims Over the course of the first lesson you will: Get to know something about everyone in the class Decide on ground rules for the class Learn which textbook we use Learn how the course is set out and how to be successful

Before we begin… Fold the piece of paper in three to create a name card Write your name/preferred name on the front. Make sure it is clear and bold so I can see it!

AQA A Level Specification Three papers. Each paper is 2 hours. 96 marks in total. Each paper is worth 33.3% of the final A level mark. AO1 = description AO2 = application AO3 = evaluation RM questions may require any skills but mainly AO2. Minimum 25% RM questions across the papers Including minimum of 10% Maths skills

(MCQ, short answer questions, essay style questions). About the course… First year Memory Social influence Attachment Approaches in psychology Psychopathology Research methods Second year Research methods Debates and Issues in Psychology Gender Schizophrenia Forensic psychology Assessment (MCQ, short answer questions, essay style questions).

How will I be assessed? Over the course of the year, you will be assessed in many ways…. You will have 4 hours of homework to complete a week. Up to three 16 mark tracking tests each topic Essay questions (marked both in class and by the teacher) End of topic mini mocks (24 marks) Mock and progression examination (Christmas and summer)

What textbook will I need? It is compulsory requirement to purchase a first year A level textbook. It must be purchased within the first 2 weeks You will also need to buy a folder and a pack of dividers.

Policies What are the ground rules going to be for your class? If you are late…. If you do not complete your homework or if your homework is not completed to a high enough standard… What are we going to do with mobile phones?

Expectations of the department You must train yourself to… …do all homework …engage in all class activities with enthusiasm …respect your classmates and your teacher …not to disrupt the class when teacher or classmates are talking …bring your folder, completed tasks and homework, a working pen to each class …stay off the mobile phones …not be late. If the lesson has started, you must knock on the door and wait for the teacher to open it at a time which will not disrupt the class. …not leave the class if you don’t understand. Ask colleagues, teacher and if it is still unclear, go to a subject extension
