The Safe Use of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)

Safety Equipment Required Recommended - Helmet - Long Pants - Close Faced - Boots Shoes - Eye Protection

Hazards to be Aware of · Rocks · Changing slope ·        Unexpected drop-offs ·       Rocks ·       Changing slope Be aware of slope changes when riding sideways on a slope. Watch for objects that could tip you over.

Hazards to be Aware of Steep Ground – Uphill Riding     Ride with your weight forward     Don’t change gears     Use front brakes only

Hazards to be Aware of Steep Ground - Down Hill Riding Weight Back where arms are fully extended (braced) Use a lower gear with very little throttle Use Back Brake only

Hazards to be Aware of Don’t Ride above what conditions allow for Roads at the Station Wash board Loose Gravel On-coming Traffic

Hazards to be Aware of Key to Success Be Aware! Keep speed down so hazards can been seen and avoided

Pre-Use Safety Inspection Check oil Check fuel Brakes, cable & Fluid Tires – Pressure & Lugs Leaks Lights (if you may need them)

Towing and Load Considerations Observe all weight limits Be sure tires are properly inflated Only place cargo on load racks Properly load cargo Rear cargo as far forward as possible Front cargo clear of the handlebars

Towing and Load Considerations Make sure all cargo is secured Balance cargo evenly on both sides Balance trailer cargo evenly front & back Allow extra room for starting, stopping and turning Avoid steep slopes especially side travel
