REQUIRED INFORMATION FOR MOTOR VEHICLE EXCISE ABATEMENT APPLICATIONS (508) 881-0100 – ext 2012 / (508) 881-0181 (fax) CANCELLATION REGISTRATION CANCELLATION RECEIPT from the Registry of Motor Vehicles AND a copy of the BILL OF SALE. If you do not have a Bill of Sale please complete the AUTOMOBILE DISPOSAL FORM attached to this request. TRANSFER REGISTRATION for the new vehicle AND a copy of the BILL OF SALE or the PURCHASE AGREEMENT if the vehicle was traded in to a dealer showing the trade in on it. If you do not have a Bill of Sale please complete the AUTOMOBILE DISPOSAL FORM attached to this request. STOLEN OR TOTAL LOSS POLICE REPORT or INSURANCE SETTLEMENT LETTER AND a REGISTRATION CANCELLATION RECEIPT or a NEW REGISTRATION. MOVED OUT OF TOWN If you have moved prior to January 1 of the tax year in question, a copy of the INSURANCE COVER SHEET for the previous year showing the NEW ADDRESS CHANGE is required. You may also use, as proof, a copy of a utility bill, voter registration or lease. REGISTERED VEHICLE IN ANOTHER STATE OR COUNTRY NEW REGISTRATION showing the ORIGINAL REGISTRATION DATE and a REGISTRATION CANCELLATION RECEIPT is required. NON POSSESSION OF VEHICLE If the vehicle was never taken possession of submit a LETTER FROM THE DEALERSHIP stating the fact AND a copy of the REGISTRATION CANCELLATION RECEIPT or NEW REGISTRATION if plates were transferred. REPOSSESSED NOTICE FROM LIENHOLDER AND REGISTRATION CANCELLATION RECEIPT. LEMON LAW LETTER FROM DEALER OR PRIVATE PARTY certifying return AND REGISTRATION CANCELLATION RECEIPT or NEW REGISTRATION. OTHER: The Ashland and Millville bills are for two different 2009 Hondas. It looks like you transferred the plates from the Millville vehicle to the Ashland vehicle on 02/13/17. If so, file for abatement on the Millville bill. You registered the second vehicle with your Ashland address. Send above proof. IF YOU RETAIN OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION AND REMAIN IN ASHLAND, YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO AN ABATEMENT. PLEASE NOTE: Said bill MUST be paid on or before the due date regardless whether or not an abatement is granted. Depending on the date of action on the requested information, there still may be a balance due on unpaid bills. INTEREST FEES and ADDITIONAL CHARGES will also accrue until the bill is paid.
