4. Revolve the nosepiece until the low-power objective lens clicks into place. 5. Adjust the diaphragm. While looking through the eyepiece, also adjust the mirror until you see a bright white circle of light. 6. Place a slide on the stage. Center the specimen over the opening on the stage. Use the stage clips to hold the slide in place.

7. Look at the stage from the side 7. Look at the stage from the side. Carefully turn the coarse adjustment knob to lower the body tube until the low power objective almost touches the slide. 8. Looking through the eyepiece, VERY SLOWLY the coarse adjustment knob until the specimen comes into focus.

How a microscope works Use of lenses for magnification

Microscope Procedures, Rules, etc Write the # of your microscope on your lab paper Sign in & out for prepared slides (if something happens let me know) Make all drawings in PENCIL only & label them correctly Carry microscope with both hands

Rules con’t Set microscope at least 6 inches from the edge of the table (arm facing you) Check microscope before you start to use it (report problems) Plug in cord and keep it out of your way Don’t lean on table or make sudden movements Put on low power objective lens when done
