March 6-7, 2017 Grab a paper to grade! **Heads up: Test Thursday over I chart and writing vocabulary**

Spring Break Assignment Did you know that the Bible is the number one most printed book of all time with approximately 6 billion copies? That’s a lot of Bibles! So it’s no surprise that so many novels, short stories, plays, poems, movies, and many other types of media make references (or allusions) to such a widely known book. It is important to be familiar with some of the more famous stories in the Bible since many authors allude to it and use it as a subject matter. You should read and study the following selections as literature.  Assignment #1:  Directions: Read 10 of the 20 stories listed on the following page. Then, write a short summary, draw an illustration representing what you have read, and include one key verse for each story. As you complete this assignment, check them off and staple it to the first page of your assignment. This assignment will be due the first class day back from Spring Break.  Requirements: Check off list stapled to the first page of your assignment (this will serve as a table of contents) Organized in a spiral-bound notebook, sketch book, scrap book, folder, or binder. Please no loose leaf paper/lined paper. One summary/illustration per page with a clear title Summary must be 3-4 sentences in length Illustration may be drawn. Illustrations will be graded on effort. (If printed, I expect more than one illustration) *** Use the NIV version of the Bible; you can also read the stories online.

Rubric Criteria for evaluation: A – (100) Student shows evidence of thoughtful, insightful, and creative effort. It is obvious that the student was engaged and exerted a significant amount of time thinking beyond the limits of the assignment. (10 accurate summaries, 10 illustrations, 10 verses-quotes, correct spelling & grammar) B – (80) Student shows thoughtful and somewhat insightful or creative effort. His or her work is characterized by a clear understanding of the assignment. C – (75) Student shows a lack of complete understanding and has some difficulty articulating their ideas with clarity and depth. Student completes assignments yet is not entirely engaged. D – (70) Student shows a lack of desire to complete assignments. When completed, the student’s work is characterized by superficiality and lack of understanding. F – (60) Incomplete or unacceptable work. ** A word about academic dishonesty: Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty shall be subject to grade penalties on assignments or tests and disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another (student or other). The determination that a student has engaged in academic dishonesty shall be based on the judgment of the classroom teacher or another supervising professional employee, taking into consideration written materials, observation, and information from students.
