Using Technology to Promote Reading Books Traci L. Williams MEDT 8463 November 29, 2010

Why use Technology to Promote Reading Books? Promotes reading through a medium students are attracted to. Gives students ownership of reading. Increases awareness of books. Allows students to create and interact with reading (social networking).

Why did I choose this topic? Blends my love of reading with technology. This technology will help pique students’ interest in reading. Not all students are interested in reading, but nearly all students are interested in technology.

By choosing this topic, I am forcing myself to learn how to use technology. I will have to find the technology that will best promote reading and then learn how to implement it and train students on what to do. I believe this will, in time, make me more comfortable with technology. Even though I am not comfortable using technology, I do enjoy incorporating it into lessons. I also love reading and worry that students will eventually become so consumed with technology they will not be interested in reading books. By promoting books with technology, I will be solving my problems with technology and encouraging students to read.
