Groundpig Day By John Riggio (ASCAP)  2007 Plank Road Publishing Music K-8, Vol. 17 no. 3 Used by permission. All rights reserved. Ppt. by Emily Kelchner Lee

See, it stands to reason that, in the world of swine, the words “hog” and “pig” are interchangeable. So we figured, if pigs can do it, why can’t groundhogs? Therefore, we decree that this February 2nd shall be called Groundpig Day.

A day when all the groundpigs celebrate their heritage and take on the role of… nature’s weather forecaster. Yes, where would we be without that most noble of creature, the groundpig?

Everything is better on Groundpig Day. Please don’t call us groundhogs If I see my shadow on Groundpig Day, Six more weeks of winter from Groundpig Day.

We’ll be eating veggies, (munching, yummy noises) doing Groundpig things. Wanna play ball? Sure! When the winter’s over, then we’ll see the spring.

Yup. It doesn’t get much better than this, folks. The life of a groundpig is one of ease. Just makin’ the hang here in our groundpig pad with our groundpig friends doin’ the things that Groundpigs do. Hey…you wanna eat some leaves?

Everything is better on Groundpig Day. Please don’t call us groundhogs If I see my shadow on Groundpig Day, Six more weeks of winter from Groundpig Day.

Groundpig Day!
