2 What is electronic government? The use of the Internet and related technologies to facilitate communication between government and the general public, provide government information and services to citizens and business, and coordinate business processes internally and with other governments E-Government should: –Make it easy for citizens to obtain service and interact with the federal government; –Improve government efficiency and effectiveness –Improve governments responsiveness to citizens

3 Why is e-gov important? Simplifying delivery of services to citizens; Eliminating layers of government management Simplifying agencies' business processes and reducing costs Streamlining government operations Make information and services easy to find and use

4 What it can contribute to development Increased effectiveness of social services Means to accountability Means to greater public access of information Means to a more transparent government Market for information technology solutions Increased citizen participation in regulatory processes
