PHOTOSHOP

So what is Photoshop all about? It’s a popular program for creating and modifying digital images. It’s the most popular graphic editing software in the world! It is produced by a company called Adobe Systems (who also owns Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash…)

So how long has Photoshop been around? In the late 1980’s two brothers, Thomas and John Knoll, who were fascinated by art and technology and whose dad was a photographer started playing around on their father’s Mac computer. They began to develop software that could select and affect only certain parts of an image. They named it Photoshop. In 1990 Adobe launched Photoshop 1.0 And it hasn’t stopped evolving. We are using Photoshop CS5

Why use Photoshop? It is the leading software in its field With it you can: Create original artwork Design graphics for the web Edit , adjustments, and manipulate photographs Design layouts

Key Points About Pixel (aka Bitmap aka Raster) Images Not scalable without loss of resolution Fixed resolution of pixels on a grid Confined to a rectangular background Good for photorealistic images and mimicking painting Photoshop is a popular bitmap editing program PSD, JPEG, JPG, GIF are common bitmap formats
