Spelling Quiz!

Spelling Quiz: The Answers Admonish Breach Commandeer Deadlock Diffuse Efface Muddle Predispose Relinquish Salvage

The Vocab Exam Memorizing definitions, synonyms, and antonyms requires rote memorization and is based on repetition. This is something you can do on your own time. However, your vocabulary exam will ask you to write your OWN sentences from a selection of words listed. Your vocabulary exam will also ask you to COMPLETE the sentence using a selection of words listed.

How to Study Vocab Use Quizlet! I made it for a reason. https://quizlet.com/join/acW2swQnW Practice using the vocabulary words you’ve learned. Let’s look at Unit 1. Which words do you recognize? Admonish, Circumspect, Dilemma, Opinionated, Relinquish, Unbridled

Knowing Parts of Speech Noun: Person, place, thing, or idea Verb: Action word (to ---) Adjective: Word that describes a noun Adverb: Words that modify (change) everything except nouns.

Step One: Group the Verbs Admonish Breach Commandeer Deadlock Diffuse Efface Muddle Predispose Relinquish Salvage

Sentences Using Verbs… The librarian had to _____________ the noisy students several times before they settled down. Our troops were unable to _________________ the enemy’s lines during the battle. Under certain circumstances the U.S. government has the right to _________________ private property.

TODAY Vocabulary from Unit One Review vocabulary from yesterday. Review parts of speech.

Verb Sentence Challenge: Write one sentence for each vocabulary word for a total of five sentences. Each sentence should use the following verbs from Unit 1 to complete the sentence below. Admonish, Breach, Commandeer, Relinquish, Salvage The librarian had to _________________

Step Two: Group the Nouns Breach Brigand Deadlock Debris Dilemma Muddle Perennial Salvage

Which Nouns are Also Verbs? Breach Deadlock Muddle Salvage Usually, a word will more likely be used as either a noun or a verb. When this happens, it can cause confusion when trying to create a sentence.

Which Nouns are Also Verbs? Breach: Both Deadlock: Noun; past tense in verb form Muddle: Verb Salvage: Verb Usually, a word will more likely be used as either a noun or a verb. When this happens, it can cause confusion when trying to create a sentence.

Nouns Vs Verbs Make sure you aren’t using a verb as a noun or vice versa. Ask yourself if the word is the subject or if it is the action. Good: Because we couldn’t agree, we were deadlocked in an absurd debate over which is better: Velveeta cheese or Kraft Mac and Cheese. Bad: After thirty-minutes of arguing we remained in a deadlocked.

Step Three: Group the Adjectives Circumspect Cumbersome Diffuse Opinionated Perennial Spasmodic Spurious Unbridled

Adjectives: Why Are They so Difficult? Adjectives cause the MOST confusion for students when it comes to creating their own sentences. A lot of times, the best thing you can do is read. This helps you understand how each word is commonly used. Nouns: Person, place, thing, idea When you use an adjective, you have to be careful about WHAT it is you are describing. Some adjectives won’t work for all nouns.

Sentence Challenge Write three sentences. Each sentence must include DIFFERENT nouns, verbs, and adjectives listed from Unit 1. These can be as creative as you would like.

Homework: Unit 1 Join Quizlet. Choosing the Right Word Synonyms Antonyms Completing the Sentence
