Why See a Board-Certified Dermatologist? I am a board-certified dermatologist. Dermatologists are the recognized experts in skin, hair and nail health.

Why See a Board-Certified Dermatologist? In addition to diagnosing and treating more than 3,000 skin, hair and nail conditions, board-certified dermatologists can: Safely perform procedures to improve the skin’s appearance. Provide advice to help you care for your skin at home.

Why See a Board-Certified Dermatologist? Dermatologists care for patients of all ages, including Babies with birthmarks. Children with eczema. Young women with acne. Older men with skin cancer. No matter who you are or what your skin, hair or nail concern may be, a board-certified dermatologist has the education, training and experience to provide you with the best possible medical, surgical and cosmetic treatment.

What Is a Board-Certified Dermatologist? After earning a bachelor’s degree and a medical degree, a board-certified dermatologist must complete at least four addition years of education: A one-year internship. Three years of dermatology residency.

What Is a Board-Certified Dermatologist? After completing his or her education, a dermatologist must take an exam to get board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology, the American Osteopathic Association or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. While other providers may claim to be dermatologists or offer dermatologic services, these individuals Do not have this rigorous training. Cannot offer the same level of high-quality care as a board-certified dermatologist.

How Can I Find a Board-Certified Dermatologist? Before seeking dermatologic care, make sure your dermatologist is board-certified by the ABD, the AOA or the Royal College. Be wary of certifications issued by other organizations. To determine whether your dermatologist is board-certified: Check the doctor’s website or the websites the certifying boards. Look for “FAAD” after the doctor’s name. This stands for “Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.” All AAD Fellows are board-certified.
