Erwin Rommel Born in Heidenheim, Germany on November 15, 1891

Erwin Rommel’s dad was a school teacher. His mom was the daughter of a former president of Wurttemberg. Rommel’s wife as a kid.(On the left)

Getting Into War Got into the army because his dad wouldn’t let him study engineering at a college. Was first introduced to the military when he joined the 124 infantry regiment as an officer cadet.

Had a wife named Lucie Maria Mollin. Married in 1916 Had a child on Christmas eve of 1917

. Fought in the western front and won the Iron Cross In 1917 in the Italian front and soon was promoted to captain after leading the attack on Monte Matajur. Gained a lot of respect for leading this.

Desert Fox Nicknamed “Desert Fox”. Was commander of the Afrika Corps He warned Hitler about the hopelessness of the Axis situation in Africa.

Rommel’s Bravery Rommel always showed bravery during battle. An example is when he had a broken leg and ran out of ammo, he charged three Frenchmen with a bayonet. After returning from the frontlines in Argonne, Rommel received his first declaration for bravery which was the Iron Cross Class 1.

A Good Man Rommel was well respected by the British because of his respect for the enemy. Believed that all prisoners of war should be well looked after and not abused.

Suspected to be part of the bomb plot against Hitler and the Gestapo. Was against Hitler on many decisions. In between being a general on duty, Rommel was an instructor at an infantry school and at Potsdam War Academy.

Death Erwin Rommel died on October 14, 1944. He was suspected to have been part of the bombing trying to kill Hitler. Hitler’s men picked him up and gave him 2 options.1. He could swallow a poisonous pill or he would get a show process in Volksgerichtshof and all of his merits would disappear. He took the poisonous pill.
