How to refer for Domestic Violence/TANF Funds

To be eligible for TANF funds… Client must be receiving Work First Family Assistance (TANF) or - be found eligible for Work First Family Assistance.

Clients with children in the home that fall at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines are eligible.

Eligibility is determined when client actually applies for assistance.

If clients do not have their children in their household, they will not be eligible.

Undocumented or documented immigrants are eligible if they meet the required criteria

Client must be current or former victim of domestic violence.

Financial need must be short term and non-recurring. There needs to be a plan in place for future finances.

Application must be completed by case manager or social worker. Assistance can be provided for rental deposits, past due rent, past due utilities, utility deposits, and possibly past due mortgage payments, etc.

Other financial resources should be explored. (Crisis Assistance, Consumer Credit Counseling, family, friends, etc.)

Verification of debts must be attached to application so that payment can be arranged if request is approved. For utilities, original copy of bill/disconnect notice is needed.

If payment is approved, checks will be mailed directly to vendors. Payment cannot be provided directly to the client.
